Hey everyone. I am a 29 year old air force wife and mom of 2. I have a very bad fear of V'ing like everyone else here. My stomach has been having issues going on 2 yrs now. My doctors are stumped at this point. I never v, but really thinkI would feel better if I did. I have been on Phergan, Tigan, Compazine, Zofran but none of those work. I was even on Merinol, which is basically pot in a pill, that is commonly used for AIDS patients and people with anorexia to help them eat. I even had my gallbladder out. They thought for sure that the surgery would cure the nausea. NOPE! When all this started, I wasw drinking Sprites for my stomach, sometimes up to 3 a day. Then one day this past May, while my husband was on a deployment in Kuwaut, I had a craving for ice cold water. I started drinking water. And I felt better. Then when hubby got home at the end of June, I got back into the whole Sprite thing and the nausea returned but not as bad. Well, one day at the beginning of the new semester during our first test, I was nauseous. I had started feeling ill on the way to class. But it got worse. I could not help it any more and started gagging. I coul dnot stop. I had D mildly. I called my doc to find out what could be going on and she said it was a tummy bug. I had not v'ed and the dry heaves were gone but I took some Compazine when I got home and was fine. Today however, had been BAD! I woke up feeling kinda icky but as the morning wore on, I started getting hungry. So I had some corn flakes (2 bowls) and since then I have been MISERABLE!!! The only thing that helps me anymore is just mints and sprite. I have been taking mints, literally one right after the other. I took some ginger tablets, and those are not helping.

Not sure if you all have tried these hintsbut they used to help me when I was nauseous.

    -Benedryl or antihistimines

    - Ginger

    - Dramimine or Bonine

These helped me tremendously. I am immuned to them now since I used them to help me sleep too. If any one else has any hints that might make me feel better, I would love to hear them.

My fear of V'ing is not about control or anything like that. It is only the TASTE! I used to try to put a rag or saran wrap over my tounge so I didnt have to taste it. I would also try the whole plugging my nose too. My husband says that it is not as bad as I think it is but I remember how bad it tasted the last time I did it and refuse to do it again. I was in the 5th grade I think. I remeber it was the sloppy joe's my bro-in-laws mother made for us. UGh

Maybe the nausea is being caused by the Sprite. Sprite is very gassy, all the carbonation, that could be causing a large amount of gas to build up in your intestine, which in turn, make you nauseous. The mints also are probably not helping much. Even though they make you feel temporarily better, to much mint can make nausea worse over time. I went through a very long period of time where I was nauseous all the time, and it turned out that my liver and pancreas enzymes were elevated causing the nausea. Once I was put on the proper antibiotics, the nausea never returned. I used to eat tins of altoids a day. Since then, I can't even look at mints any more. I think I OD'd on mints, lol. I hope you feel better soon.

I am feeling a little better but if I start moving around , I feel bad. I havent ate since about 1030am and its 120pm now. I am hoping that if I can hold out a little longer that if i decide to let myself V, that i will just have dry heaves. Like I did at school. I had not eaten since about 230 the previous afternoon and it was about 830 when I started feeling really ill. Wonder how long it takes food to get out of your system? I know it varies from person to person but i wonder if ther eis general rule of thumb.

I think it's about 12 hours from the time you eat something till the time its fully digested. Maybe you are overly hungry. Have you tried Pepcid or Zantac? I used to take them before I would eat and it would help kill the nausea enough for me to actually eat. Maybe because you aren't eating regulalry there is to much acid building up in your stomach.
