    Unhappy Going on a Cruise!

    Hi everyone!

So I am sixteen years old, a sophomore in high school and have been dealing with emetophobia since I was about five. About two months ago my very best friend asked me to go on a Disney Cruise with her and her family for a week. I said yes and we leave in April. As excited as I am for the trip (I mean how couldn't you be!?), I am also TERRIFIED beyond belief about what will happen on the cruise. I have never been prone to motion sickness but I know that my friend is. She had gone on another cruise before and said that she was sick the entire time. She blamed it on the rough seas but I am freaking out! I don't want my anxiety to ruin this trip and I really don't want any of us to not feel well the entire time. I am getting seasickness pills and a bracelet that is supposed to help but it won't settle my nerves!

Have any of you been on a cruise? If so how did you manage!? I am just so scared and I know that I should only be excited but this thing is controlling me.

been on a cruise (I prefer to stay in one spot on vacation) but many people I know LOVE them. A Disney cruise will be nothing short of amazing and I'm sure you will have an amazing time. Now I have been on many boats that rock around a heck of a lot more than a cruise ship but a motion sickness pill called Dramamine always does the trick for me. I take the recommended amount of it and I don't feel a thing. Just be careful you don't get the drowsy version because after a few hours it will make you VERY tired, that is unless you want to fall asleep for a few hours lol. If your friend has seasickness issues tell her to try Dramamine it works wonders.

Just keep your hands clean before you touch anything you put into your mouth and have fun : )

I have been on 3 cruises, and 2 of them were Disney cruises!! First of all, they are AMAZING and you are going to have a blast. I have some tips for you that worked for me on all of the cruises I've been on! Also, my parents just got back from a Disney cruise, and this is the worst season for noro on cruise ships, so I gave them these tips and they didn't catch anything. First, there are plenty of options for eating food on the ship. The Disney cruises have buffets for some of their meals, which, if you can, I would avoid. Even though there are serving spoons and not everyone is touching the food, everyone IS touching the same serving spoon, and if any of those hundreds of people has been s*, you could catch it. The good news is there are burger and pizza and snack stands with food available anytime, so you can totally avoid the buffets without going hungry! Also, just in general be careful about touching railings, especially on the stairs, and try to use your stateroom bathroom instead of the public ones on the ship. Your room will be close enough to get back to easily! My last tip would be to use Wet Ones. There is an ingredient in them that kills noro, and I sent my parents on their cruise with some little travel packs. They used them before they ate, which I do in addition to washing my hands, and they seem to do a great job keeping hands clean. You could even encourage your friend to use them. As far as her motion sickness, definitely use the sea bands!! They have worked wonders for my friends with motion sickness. Also, if the seas aren't rough, most people don't even feel sea sick on a boat as big as the Disney cruise liners. Good luck and bon voyage!!

I went on a cruise and I'm petrified of motion sickness, and prone... But was fine. I was 10 when I went on one and actually had fun. You'll enjoy it!
If you try and tell me a phobia is unreal. I dare you to live a day, and feel what I have to feel.

lindsay, my sister is a theatre manager on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean. She used to get motion sick all the time but even in rough seas the ship hardly moves and she's never been sick in 15 years! Also, they're SUPER paranoid and careful about noro so you don't have to worry about that either. The main thing is it will be SO FUN!!

Good luck and let us know how it is!
