Red face Terrified of Labor and Delivery. Help?

Hey all. I haven't been here in a while. Hope everyone is well and coping with their fear!

I am now 8 months pregnant. So baby can come any time he decides! I got through the pregnancy without v! I was very n for the whole first trimester, but I fought it and a little later on I started taking Phenergan for some relief. I made it!

But now, as the due date is nearing, I am TERRIFIED of v or n during labor, especially transition. I have heard horror stories and read too much up on it, and now I feel like I am doomed and have been panicking and obsessing over the possibility of feeling or getting sick every single night.

So ladies who have given birth.... What is your story? Did you get n or did you v? If you did, what do you think caused it (pain meds, gas and air, epi, natural vagal response, c-sec)?

If you did feel n, did you get anti-emetics, and how effective were they?

    Any tips?

Seriously I am so scared that I am almost dreading the arrival of my baby, which is embarrasing to say. I just wish I could be knocked out and wake up an hour later with him already in my arms!

Please let me know your experience, your tips, what to stay away from, what worked well for you, etc. Any advice.

    Thanks!

I did get n with my third one, but it might have been because I was induced. The pain was horrible and came so quickly, not like a normal delivery. They did not give me anything for it but after the epidural kicked I felt so much better. Besides if you are gonna v , there is no better place than a hospital to do it in. And you will be too busy admiring your baby that you will totally forget about it.

I had no n* with my first child, but my 2nd I was n* during transition, I told no one about it because I didn't want anyone asking about it, I focused on mind over matter and knew pushing past the nausea got the baby out! I'm sorry you are scared but just think the end result is the most beautiful thing in the world!!!

I was scared of the same thing when I was PG with my first baby.

Seriously, when you are in labor and you are at the point where you might feel N, you will be so caught up in that moment that you wont have the ability to dwell on it too much. Your mind takes over in labor, everything that your body does to get the baby out is strangely instinctive. Its hard to describe, but I bet when you are there you will know.

With my first labor, I was induced. I walked in to the hospital without a trace of labor and things got going very fast when they gave me the pitocun. I opted for an epidural about halfway through. Once I got the epidural I could not feel anything at all. I only got N once, for a brief few moments, and it was during transition. I had the epidural so there was no pain, but I could feel and see my body moving my baby down, and my transition went very fast. I literally watched my baby move down and that feeling made my stomach contract, like a muscle spasm, and that is what made me deep extremely N for just a few moments. It passed very quickly and I was fine again. Then I felt the urge to push which was enough to keep my mind fully occupied. My baby was born about five mins later!

With my second labor, I did it naturally with no pain Meds. I never once felt N or V. It was a beautiful experience and while parts of it were painful, I never felt scared or out of control. I trusted my body and what it was doing and went with my instincts (I even ate a huge meal in the muddle of my labor which I had heard is a horrible idea if you are trying to avoid N), but I was starving and everything in my mind was telling me eating was the beat thing to do for my journey. I did and never felt N once. I actually think eating helped me keep my strength up. It was amazing.

I know it sounds trite, but trust that when that time comes you will have bigger things going on than this fear!

I did not get sick during my labor and I was eating greasy pepperoni pizza right before I hit active labor! I actually didn't get to finish my last slice because a contraction had me on the floor partway through it! The nurses I talked to said it relates to your vomiting threshold. Those who vomit easily can vomit from the pain, those who don't won't even feel nauseous. And emets do not vomit easily! I'm pregnant again now and not worried about it at all. It hurts so much that even if you did vomit you would not care! What you will care about is that the day your child is born is the best day of your entire life, hands down! You'll see!

I got a little n* during the transition of all 3 of mine. I was induced first baby, I had pethadine with baby number 2 along with anti emetics but I still felt n* during transition and baby number 3 I didnt have anything with and felt the same. It was only a little n*. The only time I really did feel unwell was with baby number 1 when they gave me the jab to help deliver the after birth - I have selected to push it out naturally with the last 2 because of that. My waters broke the last time while I was eating a massive takeaway and she was born within 2 hours - if I didnt v* with all that food in me you will be fine
