Default Will your Emet subside once the norovirus vaccine is avaiable?

I really wonder when the day comes that the norovirus vaccine is available if my Emet and anxiety will reduce greatly? Especially, since I have two small children whom I'm terrified of getting and catching from them the stomach virus. I love them to death, but I just don't enjoy them as much as I should in constant fear of them getting sick, and me catching it! I feel so bad about this!
Does anyone feel like their Emet would be reduced significantly with a norovirus vaccine available or those who are scared of having kids for fear of dealing with the stomach flu could have kids one day? Just wondering??

If they ever develop a vaccine for noro id be the happiest mum in the world, i would have no worries at all! When my kids are sick for non contagious reasons (ear infections or a bad cough) it doesnt bother me, its just stomach viruses that stress me. I dont know how they will develop a vaccine though as like flu there are many strains, or maybe like the flu jab they will try and predict whats going to affect people that particular year? You would never have 100% protection.

I feel my anxiety will be reduced greatly. I fear V* in all situations, but im not terrified of being around someone who doesnt have a SV. As long as they arent V* around me. lol. Not worrying about catching something would be amazing!! I hope they come out with this, but i hope it doesnt make you have side effects from it. kind of like the flu shot. makes you feel fluish for a couple days.

The virus will not make norovirus a thing of the past, like polio or whooping cough. In fact, the results of the clinical trials I've seen are not very promising. Of course, my goal has always been to not vomit at all, not simply to have less vomiting with a norovirus infection. So if you have only a mild dislike of vomiting and not a phobia of it, you'd probably be happier with the vaccine. If you have 4 kids who puke a lot, the virus might mean there would be only a handful of pukes in your house instead of two dozen in a winter. But from an emet's standpoint, the vaccine is not a game-changer.

I think the vaccine is a wonderful idea, but it won't reduce any anxiety for me. Of all the times I've been ill, noro has only been the culprit once. Aside from that, I'm one of those stiffs who won't take a vaccine until it's been out for a few years. You never know what long term side effects there might be!

With all that in mind though, I'm excited to see that another illness may be a thing of the past eventually.

I don't know if anyone has seen this either...but it makes me feel better that they are really trying to put an end or figure out how to make lesser outbreaks of the norovirus.

Noro used to not even be a worry for me before kids because I can control what I bring into my house. But, with kids that is a whole other story. Especially, since my 3 year old sucks his fingers still. He starts preschool soon and I'm just a nervous wreck he is going to bring home many stomach viruses. Knowing a vaccine could even cut the chance by half would ease my nerves a lot! Come on vaccine hurry up so some of us can have a normal life!!

Its nice, but there are many reasons why people v* that have nothing to do with the noro virus. It is not a guarantee that you will never v* again by any stretch of the imagination. I do not expect my emet to magically disappear once the vaccine hits the market.

Yeah, I do think a functional vaccine would make things very much better for me. I still would need to work on changing my ways of thinking, but I would feel a lot less vulnerable. It's true though that so far the vaccine seems to be only marginally effective. It is proof of the concept. I'll put it this way, if they can get it as effective as the flu shot it will be a game changer.

It wouldn't help me one bit since my fear of food illness and other health factors is much greater. Stomach virus is only a quarter of my fear surrounding emetophobia.

Since my son has caught the stomach flu twice, and my reaction to it was out of control. I was there for him, even caught his vomit in my hand (I was literally screaming on the inside). But, the after effects of playing the waiting game and the anxiety of it were almost unbearable. First my son got it bad, then my husband got it bad, and now I have 5 month old to throw in the mix. I did end up getting it the first time a few days after my son and husband I just didn't throw up like they did. But, OMG to know that one day I don't have to be on pins and needles that someone brought this retchid stomach virus into our house and watch everyone in misery only to wait my turn...it is pure torture and I would be so relieved when they have a vaccine to end my worry!! I really think I could handle being around vomit so much more it I knew I wouldn't catch it myself. Not that I would enjoy it, but at least tolerate it and not count every hour until it totaled 72!

@ mela...I feel ya on that one. When my eldest was 18 months she v all over my husbands top with noro and I had to help him get it off and got it on my hands...I was screaming inside too. To make matters worse on that occasion we all passed the 72 hrs fine, started to relax then the next day my husband started v and then I caught it, but luckily only had d...I would feel a lot better, even though it doesn't completey rule out v, it would be one less thing to worry about x
