Okay I started feeling more of myself tonight so my
parents phoned and said that they were available to babysit! Cool so my
husband and I dumped the kids off to them and we went out for dinner. I
figured since I wasnt n that I would be okay but didnt order any cake
this time lol. Just a plain old salad. However I drank a lot of diet
coke and had to pee really, really badly. So I went into the ladies
room and just had headed into a stall... okay this MIGHT be graphic for
some but this is what had happened. Right when I was about to get ready
to pee I heard someone run in, and of course went into the stall next
to me and of course I had to see what direction the feet were facing by
doing the typical peak-underneath-the-stall thing that I ALWAYS do
everytime I hear of someone heading into the stall either next to me or
if I can see even a few stalls down. Yep the feet were facing the
direction that I didnt want it to face and I heard a gag!! As soon as
that had happened, I VERY quickly got myself together, and RAN OUT AS
FAST AS I COULD with my ears covered!! My heart was pounding a mile a
minute and I was shaking like anything. I didnt care that my bladder
was about to explode! I HAD TO GET OUT OF THERE!! So I basically ran
back to the table and since my husband is a really slow eater I was
being very irritable with him! He asked me if something was wrong, I
couldnt tell him. However he asked me if there was v in the washroom
and I just said very quietly "something like that" and I didnt want to
really get into it. I just was scared like anything. Sitting at the
table, hoping my husband would hurry up, shaking, heart still pounding,
palms all sweaty.... not to mention VERY uncomfortable with a full
bladder. So finally once he was done as soon as we got out of there I
was still very irritable. Then as soon as we got to my parents to pick
up the kids, I immediately RAN to the SAFE washroom to finally once and
for all pee! However I cant get that awful gagging sound and that
imagine of the feet facing the toilet out of my mind!!! UGGH! I
mean REALLY, its not like I was going to SEE the v, but knowing it was
happening RIGHT NEXT TO ME was just enough for me to deal with! Yep so
if its not me feeling sick, someone not only has to around me but
has to GET sick!!! I HATE THIS! Just thought I would share with you
about my lovely evening out!

Sounds horrible! Sorry that had to happen. I hate public restrooms too. You never know when someone is going to come in and vomit near you. I cannot say whether it was something contagious, but chances are, if they were an adult, they wouldn't have been in a restaurant when they were feeling nauseated.Eating is the last thing a person should want to do when they are nauseated. They could have overeaten, or if the place you went to serves alcohol, they could haveconsumed too much alcohol or they could have been drunk before they came into the restaurant. You'd never know. For me, I would rather have someone vomit in the toilet, even if it is next to me, because, in my opinion, it would be even more unpleasant to come out of the restroom and see a pile of vomit on the floor (sorry if that was graphic). If someone vomited in the area where people were eating, some people might have vomited from seeing that person do it, and I'd personally be more afraid if that happened. Just don't worry too much. And try to forget it. I know it is hard, but it probably wasn't a virus because if someone was already feeling sick, why would they goeat? Oh wait. You never mentioned that you were afraid of catching anything. If you are, there is my little advice/opinion. Vomiting has to ruin good times like going out to eat (I like food and I wouldn't want someoneto ruin my eating experience with vomit). Try to forget about the experience and you will probably be fine.

it doesnt matter whether or not someone v's from something contageous
or not... if someone around me v's, I RUN NO MATTER THE REASON! Even if
its something like morning sickness, or whatever, it doesnt matter. And
yeah you are right its better that someone v's in the toilet rather
than the floor but.. WHY DID IT HAPPEN AROUND ME IN THE FIRST PLACE??
uggh talk about crappy luck!

Miriam - I'm sorry you had such a bad night. I dislike any sort of V* too. Even if its due to too much alcohol or morning sickness - the sound, the smell, the thought.. I hate it, too. Like you I have to RUN - and be somewhere "safe". Its not nice when thisphobia ruins nights out.

I find the worse thing for me is when a close member of my family or one of my flatmates is unwell (and prob kids if I don't sort this out by then) then my nurturing instinct makes me wanna help and be there for them but my phobia is yelling at me to RUN, RUN, RUN...

I feel very selfish when that happens...

Omigod, I'm so sorry that happned to you. I never ever go in public toilets for that reason. If I'm like in a hotel or something where they have a communal toilet and I'm not going home for three days, I always get my sister to first check that nobody is in there and. (Now this is really pathetic) I have a homemade OUT OF ORDER sign that I stick on the door. Writing it down it seems really weird, and if it's the only bathroom there they tend to complain and of course the manager always says "Actually it's fine..."Edited by: x hannah x

Thanks
everyone, well I went to Chapter's today (Canadian version of Barnes
and Noble I guess) and again I had to go really badly but I ended up
cutting my visit there short all because I didnt want to use the
washroom there and luckily its not far from my home but I just wish my
emet didnt get into the way like this.

Big hugs. I am sorry that that happened to you. I am JUST like that. I think the sound of it and so forth REALLY gets to me. I always cheack to see what way the feet are facing. I would have done the exact same thing too. I wouldn't have been leaving whether contagious or not.
I am famous for covering my ears. In fact when I heard someone getting up in the night I didn't even wait to find out if it was just to pee I covered my ears.
I HATE public restrooms. I WAS getting use to it but I had a bad experience a few weeks ago. I had my little guy and plopped him in the stroller and decided to make the hike to the mall. It is a good 4km walk and I knew I wasn't going to make it home witha full bladder. *****GRAPHIC*******

I opened the stall and the toilette was almost overflowing with something that wasn't feces. I slammed the door and ran out of there.

Done******

It is the only time though that that has happened in a public restroom to put any minds at ease. I did however managed to foget about the chinese food that I has wanted so bad. I didn't eat lunch and didn't want dinner either.
I can look at it though as some good exposer therapy. I would have done better had I been prepared

Enough looking at the bad though

CONGRATSMIRAIM on your night out. It may not have been one for the books but you did go out and I congratulate you on that. I hope that it doesn't set you back any and that you get to have a night out again. The chances of that happening again are slim too I think. If you think of how often it has happened to yout out the number of times that you have used a public restroom.

aw that sounds awful - I hate using public restrooms. I always tend to smell the bathroom as I open the door, just so I know if anyone has v* in there recently I get so scared walking into bathrooms. Especially in my school - theres no gaps under the doors so you cant see and it can be a very scarry experiance. Probably because you are trapped (well almost) and its hard to get out of a situation that you just cant control.

But well done for going out - it was a big achievement anyway - and I'm so sorry that this experiance ruined the rest of your dinner.

Thanks everyone, yeah that was HORRIBLE but I try to
look at the odds of something like that happening again. Its not too
likely and yeah that doesnt stop me from going anywhere. But even
though I know the odds of that happening are slim again, I still am
avoiding public washrooms. I never liked them to begin with but I hate
them even more now. I have at times in the past gone into public
washrooms with single stalls where the toilet seat is UP but it never
has smelled like v in it, in fact it has always smelled very clean in
situations like that. I panic whenever I have seen that but since it
smells clean, I know that the washroom was just cleaned and the janitor
forgot to put the seat down after cleaning it. Uggh one track mind we
all have huh?

Ugh.. sorry that happened to you. I would have reacted the exact same way. And I think the same when I go into a restroom as the first of the day, it takes my breath for a moment when I see the seat up...

Yikes, that's horrible!!! I'm so sorry that happened to you. I thought I was the only person who checked people's feet!

I had the same experience as Mel in a restaurant bathroom, and now I'm always scared to death to open the stall door when it's closed. I always look really quick and am prepared to run!

This happened to me too! Yet it was my dd on the toilet and I didn't want to freak her out but I was like "honey you must hurry!" I had to hear it all happen! I still to this day avoid that place!
Do you find yourself upset when your children need to use the bathroomout in public? I freak out when they say they have to go! I always make them go at home right as we walk out the door and beg them to not go if we are in public. Sometimes we have to use them and then I am a freak saying DON"T TOUCH ANYTHING AND HURRY UP!
I hate emet

I understand. I never use public restrooms unless I absolutely have to! And if I can't find a toilet that has been flushed, which so often happens, I will not go until I get back home. No way!

Miriam: at the Chapters you were at, the Starbucks in the front of the store has a single-person bathroom - no stalls or anything. You could have gone there....just so you know for next time.
