    Physical and other Tools:

    1. Water - Water can be an outstanding tool. Along with our rapid, shallow breathing comes a side effect...dry mouth. In addition, many of us have hot flashes with panic and anxiety that cause excessive sweating. Also the "shock" of a drink of ice cold water can help to bring us back into the real world. A water bottle taken along on our outings can be tremendous help. Also, splashing your face with cold water can really help. One young lady, desperate to stop the panicky feelings, simply dumped it on her head...and yes, it did help, lol.

    2. Cell Phones - I sometimes wonder what on earth we ever did before we had cell phones, lol. Our cell phone is our link to safety or the voice of a supportive friend or family member. You can take along the emergency phone list from the group...or program in numbers if you want. A lot of time we do not use the cell phone, but knowing its there...if we need it...is enough.

    3. Rubber Bands - Many of us use a rubber band on our wrists. When we begin to have panic or anxiety, we snap the band against our wrists...again, this is a way to bring us back to the world. Rubber bands come in many colors if you are worried about accessorizing, lol. Stretchy bracelets and watches that can be snapped work as well.

    4. Hot or sour candies - Again, a shock to your system to get your thoughts off the anxious thoughts and feelings. Those new little Listerine strips work too...WOW!

.I just want to feel safe in my own skin. I just want to be happy again. I just want to feel deep in my own world. But I’m so lonely I don’t even want to be with myself. <3
