Hi Jenneh,

I get something similar to that too. It happens when I feel really stressed or worried about something, and my heart will feel almost as if it skips a beat, my chest starts to hurt and I have difficulty breathing. My doctor said it's acid indigestion (part of IBS) which is brought on by stress, so maybe that it what it is for you too.

I still think you should get it checked out though just in case, even if it's just to put your mind at rest

    Hope you feel better soon

omg jenneh I was just about to post about this too. I get this pain alot, its not constant but I get it every few weeks. I didnt think that it could be connected with IBS but I guess that makes sense. Its probably just a stress thing but I must admit it is a little worying. I would go to the doctor if you're worried, its always best, even if its to put your mind at rest

Well, I heard something on the radio the other day about people with pains like these- and the doctors treated it for indigestion, but it was really heart disease. But, since you're young, I wouldn't worry about that if I were you. Maybe go to the doctor and ask about medicine for digestion? They can probably give you some meds for it.

Sounds like heartburn.... i get it a lot, it really hurts, feels like your hearts gonna split in two or something... its brought on by stress and some foods you eat. Stress makes it a lot worse though. Try gaviscon or pepto-bismol for it, they work like magic.

Jenneh - sounds to me like all your symptoms are good old fashioned stress. You have had a lot of pressure to absorb these last few months - mock exams, revision, exams and that agonising wait for the results, plus, I imagine, wondering what you are going to do with yourself now school is ended. People get all sorts of symptoms just like yours when they go through periods like this without having the emet on top of it all.

Try to take some time to chill out and relax - have you ever considered having a massage, or treating yourself to a day's pampering at one of those health spa thingies? Anything really to relax and enjoy yourself and recharge your batteries.

You are always there for us when we are in need of some encouraging words, and I imagine you are always there for your friends too, but it is important to take some time for yourself - it's far too easy to spend all your time 'putting other people back together' so that you end up letting yourself fall apart (a bit extreme, but you know what I mean). If you don't improve, talk to your doctor or a counsellor, but I'm sure you are suffering from stress.

    Best wishes, Jill xxx

Jen, you really need to go the doctor and get it checked out. I'm sure it's probably just heat burn, but you never know. My sister is 19 and was having similar troubles. She has been battling anorexia for the last couple years, and it turns out that it put so much stress on her heart that she damaged three of her valvs (don't think I spelled that right!!) and is now on some medication which is helping. I don't want to scare you and I'm not trying to be a hypochondriac or anything, but I just don't want you to ignore this because you're young. Unfortunatly, we do things to our bodies sometimes that make us age much faster than we should. Hope you are feeling better now, though!

Like everyone else has said, Jen, you really, really need to go to the doctor for this. I am sure that its just heartburn or anxiety, my mother also has an anxiety disorder and when she has severe anxiety she gets chest and heart pains such as this. Get it checked out just to make sure tho.
