Here we go again with the dental problems. Oh how I hate the dentist. I have so much work to get done it scares me. Crowns, root canals, bridges, etc. This work needs to get done soon. I am very fidgety in the chair. I won't do twilight sedation or anything like that. Anyway, does anyone know of any medicine I can take to stop the nervous stomach thing? I have seen some of you mention Compazine. Now I have Meclizine (it's the same as Ativert). My doctor gave that to me for my inner ear infection (I was getting dizzy). Does anyone know if Ativert helps with nausea or if Ativert and Compazine are kind of the same? Any suggestions on how I can stay sane at the dentist? I don't want to get dentures. I'm only 28 years old. I have to get this done. Your help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Major dental phobe here. Thanks.

Hey, i know how u feel... i need a lot of work done on my teeth too. I never used to be scared of the dentist but on my last trip i had a really bad panic attack in the chair and i just cant bring myself to go again. So now i am going to have evrything done under general anaesthetic! They can do everything usually in one go. My doctor did suggest trying diazepam before i went to the dentist as it calms you down, i take it now for panic attacks when they start.

I havent heard of the other medication u mentioned...sorry!

Hi Melanie
unfortunately i cant advise you on any meds to help you with nervous nausea bcos i refused any sort of meds from my doc bcos i feel ill be stronger in the long run if i get thru out of my own strength and will power. However I can suggest herbal tablets such as kalms or quiet life, u can get them from ur local supermarket but id still ask your doc b4 using them.
I think maybe it would be very helpful to you to actually tell your dentist about your emet and your fear of the dentist, even tho this will not change the fact u have to have the work done, having the knowledge that the dentist knows about how your feeling will probably make you feel a lot calmer. Also ask your dentist to go thru step by step exactly what is going on so you can prepare yourself for what is coming next.
hope this was helpful! Good Luck !

Hey Guys:

Thanks so much for all of your advice. My dentist already knows I'm afraid of him. That's for sure b/c I can't sit still in the chair. I told the financial lady about my emet. She didn't really say anything, so I'll mention it to her again. I don't know. Going to the dentist really sucks. I'm sure I will get through it though somehow. I always do. Thank you guys so much again. Melanie
