How long can bugs/viruses survive outside the human body?

If say.. my friend whose sick mailed me something, n I got it the next day... could there.. you know, be any germs on it or somethin?

Ive wondered for a while actually, about touchin taps/ toilet flushers etc shortly after a sick person, how long to germs take to die?Edited by: Eternity

I don't know the answer to that I'm afraid but I think about it too.

I try to tell myself that if someone posts me something and they're not well so many other people handle it in between them and me that all the germs will probably have got on to their hands and not mine .... but then I suppose there is the fact of the contents inside the envelope......hmmmm.......

At least.. I am not the only one.

In comfort he gets sick very easily.. n I do not, so hopefully even if I should catch it, it shant be enough to make me ill.

I always wonder that also, hence why I try to bring a bottle of hand sanitizer wherever Igo, so I can sanatize whatever I touch that some sick person may have touched. About the letter, I wouldn't worry too much about it- germs probably couldn't live in there for that long.

I heard that stomach bug germs cannot live with out moisture, but I don't know if thats true. I wish I remembered where I read that at. I honestly don't know how long they survive outside the body. My best advice is to carry hand sanitizer and always keep your hands away from your eyes, nose and mouth.

And a question for everyone else. My mom said stomach bug germs can enter through a cut. Is this true?Edited by: mystikal star

I've heard that germs live on surfaces and such for up to 24 hours, and I think some even longer....And all I've heard about the stomach bug is to never touch your eyes nose mouth and wash your hands frequently...so I don't know about it getting into cuts.

Well, from what I have heard, germs live longer on moist surfaces. But, that doesn't mean that it can't live on dry surfaces. Now, I think that for you to have a greater chance of catching it, they would have to touch their feces or vomit on their hands and not wash them. As long as they washed their hands, you probably won't catch it. Besides, how do you know that it was contagious? I mean, food poisoning symptoms are basically the same as virus symptoms. Um.... I would doubt that the virus is still on the letter right now, but I'm no expert, so I do not know. Take care.
