Agoraphobia means "fear of the marketplace" but really its just means people that fear going outin crowded and open places.

Yeah there are several meanings to it. What wing stated
is correct but it also means that someone is afraid to leave a safe
place (eg home) because he or she could either embarass him or herself
and/or be in trouble with no help or something. Many emets are
agorophobic but I fortunately am not.

yea..I too, am fortunate not to have agoraphobia but unfortunate to have social phobia..

agrophobia -- is the fear of sexual abuseor smthing! lol
agoraphobia -- i read somewhere the other day, that many ppl descrbe it as the fear of open places, i.e. being outside... buts its apaprently also known as a fear of the panic u may get wen u go places. like, the other day i was really scared to go to work cause last time i had a panic attack... apparently, thats agoraphobia.

Well i just thought I would fill you all in.
Because of my emet I have agoraphobia. Basically agoraphobia is the fear of leaving a safe place or going to certain places incase somethin you fear will happen and u dont concider than place a 'safe place'or there will be no-one who u concider 'safe' to help u thru.
Obviously im scared of going out incase im sick, because I only feel safe at home, but im ok going places which are near home with sumone i concider safe, eg my mum or my closest friend.

Im like that too faith-marilyn. I am agoraphobic and can ony go to 'new' places with my boyfriend. I only go to places where i feel safe so im usually at home or at my mums house.
Its basically a fear of public places... somewhere u just dont want to be, like for me its incase i v* or someone else v*s.
