Hey everyone...

Well it all started last night. I went to bed at 11 and could not sleep. I was sooo nausea, so of course my anxiety was terrible. Finally around 1:30 I feel asleep only to wake up half an hour later to a really really sore throat. After about an hour I feel asleep again, and then at 5:00 finally got up.

So now, I have a cold. My throat is so raw, it feels like someone stabbed a knife through it. And my eyes are sooo watery and swollen and my nose is stuffy but the main problem is my throat. I took my temperature and yep, a fever. Plus my stomach is still all nausea and I am really really anxious about it.

The thing is, we were supposed to bring my grandma home today, she came for a visit this week and was set to be taken home by us today. Its about 3 and a half hour drive away. We were going to leave around noon today and sleep overnight at her place and come home tomorrow.

But then I got sick. To make a long story short, my mom will be following through with the plan, what with staying at her place over night and such. But I just couldn't bring myself to do that, I feel sooo sick. So yeh, here I am home alone for today, overnight, and tomorrow. Its going to be hell.

And I am sooo scared of v*ing. Plus I feel rotten so my immune system is probably really weak. And one time a friend had a sore throat for about a day, and it resulted in v*ing. I know, its stupid, but I am scared.

Help guys! Your the only people I'll have for toaday and tomorrow...and especially over night!

Sounds like a flu. You'll be fine, no throwing up, don't worry! I'd say take a couple advils for the fever...how high is the fever? I just had this illness about 2 weeks ago, and it cleared up in about 5 or so days. I just felt really crummy for a few days. You might want to get your throat checked out (just in case - i don't want to worry you) it might be strept!

Anywho, you can take a warm bath, gargle with salt water, snuggle under your blankets and read, take your mind of it and get better!!

    Take care k?

Alot of times, if your sinuses are draining, your stomach will hurt from that. SO that's a possible explanation. Just get alot of rest, keep yourself hydrated, and enjoy as much as you can the peace and quiet and TV and relaxation. Feel better soon!

if this of any kind of consolation to you, one time I had a cold so
bad, my throat was sooooo sore that at times it felt like something was
in it and I was GAGGING but never once v'ed! You have no idea what kind
of wreck I was back then lol, but it never happened so in your case it
wont happen!! I mean okay, there are only 2 guarantees in life and not
v'ing isnt one of them lol but how about this, there is over a 99%
chance that you WONT v! So just try to relax, watch tv, read a nice
novel, rent a slapstick comedy (my kind of humor lol) you know, try to
do whatever you can to keep yourself busy! Before you know it you will
be feeling better and this will all just be a bad dream behind you!

Yeah, they are just fruit juice and water, I honestly don't see how there is anything in that which could go off. I'm sure it will be ok

Okay thanks guys, I feel a little safer now. By the way, have you realized they are starting to put expiry dates on bottles water? I was drinking one this morning, and I was like, "Hmm,this water expires in 2006...how odd!" Yet our tap water doesnt come with expiry warnings.

Anyways, I had a snooze and my sinuses are feeling a bit better, but my throat just keeps feeling worse. I have these medicine suckers that soothe sore throats, sucking on that right now.

    Thanks guys!

Sunshine I am sitting in the chat room if you feel like you need to talk or if you feel the creepy emet scare.

Sorry you got the sore throat little lady, you just got to convince yourself that you caught a sinus cold, or a cold, and enjoy your time alone.

Well, like, if you have influenza, which is kind of rare in this time of year, it can cause nausea and vomiting. Really. Just about anything can cause nausea. If you ache all over, it is probably the flu. You could also have strep throat, which can cause vomiting, but that is not a major symptom of it. For the expiration dates on the water, the water isn't BAD after the date, it is just stale. Now, popsicles, I think they have a BEST BY date, but they won't be bad after the date. I think you will be fine.

Influenza rarely causes v*. It causes nausea because of all the muscus and such in the stomac and throat. I had it in Feb for about 2 weeks, and the only time I almost threw up was because of all the mucus in my throat. But V* is not a symptom of INFLUENZA.

Now, I never said it was common. I am not trying to discourage people, but in some people, vomiting happens, whether it is from the mucus or not. This mostly happens in children. I have read about influenza from websites and they say that it can happen, but IS NOT VERY COMMON. If someone gets it, it is addition to the main symptoms.

youngemet, I have been reading your posts and sometimes the things you say can make an anxious person more anxious. I know your trying to help, and I thank you for that, but sometimes you need to be a little more practical.

we all know that yes SOME people vomit with influenza, but the chance of an emet V*ing with the normal influenza is virtually nil.

same as saying yes you can get hit by lighting twice in one day, but odds are, it will never happen to you.

can you please try to rephrase your answers to be a little more supportive or emetophobia? I hope you don't take offence to this, and no hard feelings.

Okay, before this gets REALLY out of hand, how do I know if this is influenza or just a stupid cold?

Actually, I do feel offended. I was kind of just stating facts. It is not common, but it CAN HAPPEN. Do you want me to lie and say, "YOU CANNOT VOMIT FRON THE FLU"?

It wasn't like I was saying, "Oh, yeah. You are defietly going to vomit". I was kind of just explaining why they might have felt nausea with their other symptoms. I wasn't trying to make them more anxious. Okay....then. I'll say, "THERE IS NO POSSIBILITY YOU WILL VOMIT FROM THIS".

Well, if they have nausea, there is a possibility they will vomit, right? I do not want to lie, but I will. So, next time someone says they are nauseated, I will say, "You will not vomit", EVEN THOUGH NAUSEA IS THE FEELING THAT MEANS YOU MIGHT VOMIT!!!!!! All I can really say is, "I hope you won't get sick". I do not want to lie to them.

You know what? If you all hate me so much and want me to either go away or lie about symptoms of illnesses, then I will just leave.

Well, sunshine16, influenza is commonly confused with the cold, so I do not know. It may not be the flu; it could be strep throat if you have a really bad sore throat, but I do not know. It probably is a cold or strep throat. Now, was it REAL nausea? If it was, not from panic, you might have strep throat. I seriously don't know...

I agree with Babydoll, in your posts, we know you're just trying to be helpful, but sometimes the things you say don't really seem appropriate. Some of the facts or whatnot, just aren't true. No one hates you, don't worry. I didn't know I wasn't the only one who noticed this.

Sunshine, a flu will have you more rundown that a cold. With a flu you will most likely have a fever...sounds to me like you have a flu.

You know what? Actually it can cause vomiting. I NEVER SAID IT WAS A MAJOR SYMPTOM. I KNOW: IT IS VERY RARE!!!!!! Now, if I had said that most people vomit with it, that would be wrong. Some people are just really prone to vomiting. Most people DO NOT get vomiting or nausea with the flu, BUT A VERY SMALL AMOUNT DO.

Bleh... I'm sorry you're feeling so crappy! It sounds to me like you probably just have a cold virus and that can make a person feel pretty bad. The main thing to do is to try to rest up, drink PLENTY of liquids (I know you hear that so often, but it really is SO important to getting back to your healthy self) and try your best to keep calm.

It'snot likely that you'll vomit.Typically, with a cold, nausea is moreof a side effectfrom the fever or from excessive mucusrather thana symptom of the illness itself. I tend to get extremely bad headaches (huge surprise... NOT) when I get fevers, others get chills and some nausea... it just depends on the person. Remember though that the fever is what means your body is fighting off the infection so try not to take too many fever reducing medicines unless the fever goes above 101 degrees (Farenheit) then it's important to bring it down. Try a luke warm bath andsomething mild to eat(people say soup... but when I have a cold and drainage I HATE eating hot foods... so that's up to how it makes you feel).

If it doesn't get any better within the next day or two def. go to the doctor. Strep throat is not something to mess around with and if that's what it is it's best to tackle it early on. The best thing if it is strep is that the meds. work so quickly you usually feel so much better within 24 hours. I remember going to the doctor once just sure that I had strep throat because my throat hurt so bad and his replywhen the strep test was negative was "It's just a virus that has to run its course"... the 10 worst words to hear when you can't even swallow your own spit!

    Feel Better... BIG*HUGS*

Okay, I just want to stop everyone dead in their tracks.

    STOP!

Its fine for us all to state our opinion. We shouldn't get madat each other for doing that, we just have to accept different veiws. Lizzy, your entitled to be offended, but please just remember that is all a matter of opinion.

    As for me...

Well the fever is still there but not as bad, and the nausea, I strongly believe that it's just anxiety nausea, but at bedtime I will take some gravol just in case, but I am sure I will be fine. My heart is pounding a mile a minute which kinda tells me that its all (well the stomach part anyway) is just anxiety.

I just have to keep telling myself that its just a stupid little cold with a sore throat, it will all be better before I know it. I wish.

I just read about Strep from the MayoClinic, and I do not think it is that. It is probably the flu. Just rest, drink plently of fluids and you'll probably be fine. Most people recover from influenza with no trouble. Um....but I'm still not sure because many illnesses can cause fever and sore throat. And, a fever is somewhat a GOOD thing. Your body is fighting it off. Just rest and get well soon.

I wouldn't know what strep or influenza is like, never had it before.

And about the will i v* thing, well i personally think that its very very unlikely to v* from a cold, never mind being an emet.

But I just dont know anymore. I'd just like to get a fortune telling to come and tell me if I will v* or not, and then she can tell me if its worth going to a doc or not.

If you think I'm just making it up that it is possible, but unlikely that you can vomit with influenza, check this out.

Yeh i know its always possible to v*, nothing is for sure. Anythings possible.

But nothing is ever for sure.

And only some things are likely.

Can we have some other opinions here please?
