    Hi All

I have to have a colonoscopy in a couple of weeks and I am worried about it. I was wondering if anyone else on here has had one and how did they go handling emet? I don't think anyone gets sick from having it done, but it is still a worry. Any sharing would be appreciated.

NEITHER got sick nor felt n. Just the only thing they had to expeirence
was the night before the procedure they make you drink this stuff
called golitley (it makes you go anything but lol) and they had d but
its done on purpose so everything is cleaned out but I promise you no
N!!! I know of others who has had it done too and none have experienced
    v. My FIL passed away from colon cancer and he didnt have one
done! This happened before I met my husband but its good you are
getting it done. Its a good preventative. Anyway good luck!

well, I work in the xray department and we get alot of patients having that procedure done. they say the cleaning out process the night before isn't any fun, but no one has been sick who's come in and had it done.

I'm hoping your talking about a barium enema. its really not that scarey. after the tube goes up your butt you can laugh about it and its apiece of cake from there on in.

    Hanarky,
if you dont mind me asking.. why did you need it at the age you are at
now? If you dont want to answer that is okay. Its just unusual that
someone your age is asked to have one done.

My mother in law had one done and she said the most unpleasant thing was the time spent sitting on the toilet. The procedure didn't hurt. The drink was unpleasant, but she said that what she wished was that she hadn't used any of the flavoring, becuase that was the gross part that made her kinda gaggy when she drank it. Maybe you can try it w/ out the flavoring first? Good luck, you are brave for getting in done. I have a friend who's mother died of cologn cancer at the age of 45, so it's very important that you're doing this.

knew who a girl who died from it at 22!!! Rare I know but it happened,
scary scary stuff. Its good to get it done, its so preventable!

Thankyou for your support. No babydoll, it's not a barium enema. Barium enemas involve having some radioactive liquid passed into the large bowel...A colonoscopy involves cleaning out the bowel and then having a small camera inserted.

I have heard that drinking the stuff the night before is probably the worst part of the whole procedure and I know that the stuff works WELL, but as you said Miriam, the bowel needs to be clear so they can have a good look.

I know I have to have this done as I am at ahigh risk for bowel cancer, so thankyou for helping me feel a lot better about having it done. I am definately not going to chicken out now. Just hope they don't find anything too sinister, but better to find it now than too late, as was the case with my brother...
