Well, my wife got back from the barn with my daughter and she had
gotten s**k after riding. Seems she has a s/v. Luckily my
son has not come down with any symptons (yet). Talked with a few
folks from school and their kid had it as well and it lasts less than
12 hrs (thank goodness). That does not help me much since, as
usual, I get a bit freaked out when this happens. I am of no help
to my wife (I am lucky that she somewhat understands) since I do not
want to go near my child. Wouldn't it be nice to be normal.

So here I sit in my office. Not real hungry nor do I want to go
visiting upstairs. I feel like a prisoner. This phobia
sucks. I think I should buy stock in hand sanitizers - I use
    enough of it.

I am sure that I will not get much sleep tonight but hopefully nobody else will get this bug.

In August my son caught the stomach bug and it didn't even last 12 hours which is good, like you said, it doesn't help much.
Your son may not even catch the flu. I found it so wierd how 1 person in the family has it and no one else gets it.
You are normal, you just have a phobia that freaks you out. Its nice that your wife understands to a degree. Spouses, family and friends don't understand 100% unless they have this phobia. She supports you with this phobia.
When the flu is in my place I get so sleep deprived, I drag my ass the next day. Worrying makes me feel so run down.
I hope your daughter feels better and that everyone in your household is healthy. Let us know how you are doing.

Try not to worry too much, most emet parents don't catch these bugs off their kids. Keep your hands clean and, if your wife is happy about it, stay away for a few hours. And yes, you will have sleepless nights and worry for a fewdays, like we all do when this dreaded thing happens, but you will get through it and then it will be over for hopefully a long time.

Good luck, and remember we're all thinking about you here.

Scottie...Hope things are better today. I know how you feel. I am so glad that myhusband is a very understanding person and he comes home from work and takes care of my son when he is ill. Also, if it makes you feel better...two times this past year my son had an SV and we never got it from him. I do the handwashing and sanitizing thing till they bleed, but it did work.

Stay well and know that we are here for you

I hope no one else gets it either Scottie. I feel bad you have to deal with this. Maybe the riding was too much for her? Just because someone v's doesnt mean they have an sv. There are hundreds of reasons why people v. Keep that in mind. Kim

neither of my parents are emets, and my mom has only had 2 sv's in my 20 years of existence, and my dad has had a few, but those were mostly intestinal, and he has a history of them, BADLY. but I mean my mom always took care of me and only once did she ever get sick from me, and that was when I Was like 3. Most adults have enough antibodies built up that all they will get is a bit of nauseau. And as an emet you probably know all the trick of the trade to keep yourself from getting sick. Keep things clean, avoid the other people in your house. The good news is even if they do all get it it's a short one, and you shuoldn't have to deal with it all for a long time. And your wife can probably take care of herself if she gets sick and you could just stay away

Well on Sat I decided to leave the house all day. I went
off-roading with my friends to help take my mind off it. I woke
up at 5am, left at 5:30am and did not get back until 11pm.

She was feeling much better. She did have a s/v. After the
3 episodes, she got a headache and then a fever. It seems to be
all over now. I just hope that everyone else in the house is
safe. I guess I will find out in the next few days.

    Thanks for all your support.

Glad you were able to get away and be in a place better for you. Actually, I think that when we as EMETS are away from those who are sick, we make things better for them as well. What good is a panic attack in front of our kids??? That sure doesn't make them feel better!!! I'm glad it is over and I hope all of you guys stay well.

I totally agree about just getting away. That's what I need to do, and my friends are pretty good at understanding that. They tend to stay away, or keep me away if need be.
