    Hey All,

So I have come down with Bronchitis, and have been given an anti biotic Azthromycin. Has anyone ever taken this before? I havent taken an antibiotic in at least 20 years, so I am a little nervous. But I have had this crap since christmas eve, so i am a little desperate. The side effects are listed as d* (4-5%) N* (3%) and stomach pain (2%) And you can take it with or without food. What do you guys think?

I have an allergy to Eurythromycin. I caused me severe stomach pain when I was a child. It is great for bronchitis, you really need something strong to get rid of that. I had it 2 years ago and I had to take something from a different drug family that was just as strong. I suggest you take it on a full stomach.

I take azithromycin (indefinitely) three times a week and I've never
had a problem. As long as you aren't allergic to erythromycin/macrolide
    class drugs and take the pills with food, you should be fine. :}

I've taken eurithromycin and various derivatives several times because
I'm allergic to all penicillin derivatives. I've never had a problem
    with it.

Definetly take it! You need it or you'll never feel better and the untreated bronchitis could make you really sick.

A lot of the stomach problems caused by antibiotics come from the fact
that the antibiotics kill off the good bacteria in the GI tract. To
prevent this you can eat yogurt. The probiotic smoothies such as
Danactive are best, but any that say "contains active cultures" can
work. You can also find probiotics in tablet form from stores like GNC.

I'm allergic to it also, plus the penicillin to. I am getting over bronchitis to. I have been sick for almost a month now. The doctor put me on avelox 1 pill a day for 10 days, and 2 puffers ventilin and advair- I haven't used them at all.
I will tell you, with my chest so full and feeling so crappy, I was thinking of looking on the computer about this antibiodic and thought no, I have never been this sick before and first time for bronchitis so I took the pill. Nothing happened so great, and took my pills for 10 days and no reaction. When I was done the pills I looked them up. Only side effects are diarrhea and dizziness, didn't have either symptoms.
I think its best just to take the pills and put that what if's aside.

Zithromycin (sp?) I believe is the same thing as Z-Pak. Do the directions say to take the first two pillsfor the first dose and then one every day for the next four days? Are they pink pills? If it's what I'm thinking it is, I've taken it several times and have had no problems with it at all. I'm allergic to penecillins (sp?). Those really bother my stomach. Let me know. I was trying to find an empty package, but I couldn't find it. I must have thrown it out.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for the info.. Yeah, they are little pink pills, 2 the first day and then 4 more. I have been hoping that I can get better on my own, but so far I am worse. I havent been this sick since I was a kid. Its 2AM here and I am just lyin on the couch coughing my butt off.

Maybe I will try em out tomorrow. Its just that I would rather die than risk v*ing.. Sigh..

Well just think of it this way. You're at much higher risk of v*ing if
you let yourself get really, horribly sick with a bacterial infection
then you are from taking the medication now.

I take them a few times a week too like squeaks, I've never been sick from them. You should be fine. Nausea is always listed as a side effect, but in actuality if the meds made people that sick, it wouldn't work because it wouldn't stay in them.
