    Hey!

I have a retainer. Today I woke up and took the top one out of my mouth, and it made me gag, which it usually doesn't. I thought maybe it was because it was dirty or because my throat was really dry. However, now I feel kind of nauseous. I think that it's probably from being scared about it, but I'm going to Spain for three weeks today and I don't want to be stuck on a nine hour plane ride if I'm not okay. Please! I'm sorry for wasting your time, but sometimes I over-rationalize these things and need help. Thanks!

Hi I know what you mean I get shook up when I gag. It might be becuse you had just woken up and your mouth was dry. I gagged when I had impressions taken for my brace but I didnt v* it was just having something quite big taken out of my mouth and quickly made me gag. You'll be fine!

I'm sure you're absolutely fine, spilled_milk! It was probably just the way you were lying, or how you took the retainer out - sometimes all it takes is for you to touch the back of your mouth and you gag, which is scary! I've gagged while I've been cleaning my teeth, and it scared the life out of me! You're probably just feeling weird because you're anxious about it - so don't worry!

    Enjoy your trip to Spain!

Enjoy your trip, it is probably just nerves about the flight that is making you just a little bit more sensitive today.

Thanks you guys!! That's probably it. I'm always nervous when i'm going somewhere, plus it's a REALLY long plane ride. I'm excited though! I'm leaving for the airport in an hour and fifteen minutes!!!

It's definitely that that's got me all up in a knot right now. That feeling that you don't want ANYTHING to go wrong...

Anyway, the next time that I write you i'll probably be in spain!!

    spilled_milk,

I have a sensitive gag reflex too. When I was a teenager and had my braces, I had to have the part of my retainer that covers the palate shaved off because I kept gagging on it!

I had such a fuss when I got my braces off because I gagged really hard on the moulds.

Gagging I can handle, it's not really that bad .. it's just when something acutally happens when I can't! lol

It was probably just your reflex. I gag almost every time I brush my teeth but then am fine afterwards. Enjoy Spain!!
