Try not to worry (I know its awful when its mentioned on the news!)- I found the points below on a website about Norwalk:

Norwalk virus infection is an intestinal illness that often occurs in outbreaks.

Norwalk and Norwalk-like viruses are increasingly being recognized as leading causes of foodborne disease in the United States.

The viruses are passed in the stool of infected persons. People get infected by swallowing stool-contaminated food or water. Outbreaks in the United States are often linked to raw oysters.

Infected people usually recover in 2 to 3 days without serious or long-term health effects.

To prevent Norwalk virus infection: 1) wash hands with soap and warm water after toilet visits and before preparing or eating food; 2) cook all shellfish thoroughly before eating; 3) wash raw vegetables before eating; and 4) dispose of sewage in a sanitary manner.
My son had that and thank god he wasn't living at home when he had it. Relax, because of an outbreak doesnt mean you will get it.
I watched the news this morning, are you getting that storm or is it farther away from where you live?

Where is the outbreak? Is it in a health care environment - hospital, nursing home? If so, you need not worry since it will be contained.

As long as you take the usual precautions- hand washing, putting hands over your mouth when you cough or sneeze, not sharing drinks etc- it should be alright.

I know exactly how you feel- in registration today we got a notice from the headteacher saying that there's been an outbreak of a fairly serious virus in our area and it's already begun to affect a lot of people at our school. It's particularly nasty apparently, because it can stay on damp objects for up to three days.

Anyway, we were told that to contain the spread of it we should just take extra precautions- "hand sanitisation" etc- but us emets aleady do that!

Keep us posted on how you're doing But it should be alright, as long as you're careful.

Last year we the s/v in my area got media attention. I was flipping out. Media attention. They explained how bad it was and they even showed footage and interviewed people at the local hospital. I was terrified. I didn't even want to go to school.

Hang in there. Just use the precautions. Thats all you can do. You'll be fine:O)

Norwalk sounds terrifying! I'm not sure if we really get it around here, but the precautions neesy postedare very logical - if you stick by those, icicle, you should be fine!!
