As you all probably are aware- there are a ton of things going round at the moment. One of my friends ran past me in the corridor yesterday and apparently was sick twice in the school toilets.

Anyway, I've been a bit stressed recently, what with schoolwork. I came home today after a hard day only to find that I couldn't see out of one of my eyes because it was entirely blurry. I ate dinner, but then I got a really bad headache. I mean it's literally excruciating.

As this got a tad better the nausea came. Now whenever I think of dinner I feel like I'm about to be sick. My throat feels really heavy and I actually really do think today is going to be theday. I'm trying all I can- ice on forehead, lying down in a dark room, applying this analgesic to my forehead, but nothing is working.

While the headache is excruciating, the nausea is the most worrying part. It's not normal nausea- it's like a full feeling in my throat and I really feel like I could be sick at any moment.

*UPDATE*- Exactly a week later I got the same headache (yesterday), and things got worse from there. I think I might, for the first time in my life, have got the flu. It's really annoying, I've got a fever, the headache (hehe), the hot/cold flushes. And the most annoying part is that I HAVE to go to school, because Friday is the coursework deadline for all of my subjects, and it's really bad if we don't hand it in.

Surprising getting ill ill isn't the main thing on my mind- in fact I'm just keeping myself alive wih the thought that if I stick out the next two days, it's half term after that, and I can rest as much as I want

I hope you're all doing alright, but hopefully these bugs should go soon.

Try and take a deep breath and relax a little if you can. I know you are scared, but, if you should get sick, just think of how much better you are going to feel. We have all been there and sometimes we can fight it and sometimes we can't. Just do your best to relax. Have you tried focusing your energy and thoughts on 1 specific object or memory? I've found that sometimes helps.

That sounds like a migraine I would say........ Stress can bring them on! I remember how scared I felt when I had my first one - couldn't see a thing out of my left eye, blinding headache like I had never felt before and nausea too. Sip water and take some strong painkillers, lying still in a dark room is a very good thing to do. I so hope you feel better soon...... Oh, I have never been sick from a migraine although sometimes the feeling is there!! Deep breaths help.... x

I used to get migranes a lot. The best thing I could think to do was take some heavy painkillers, lay down in my room with the lights off and the door closed and put ice on my forhead. I don't know why I thought that ice would help, but it did. I would lie very still and just pray that my mom or dad wouldn't call me to do anything. I haven't had a migrane in a long time *knock on wood* But they are horrible. Just try to be still and relax.

It sounds like you have a migraine, I get them sometimes especially when I'm stressed. Those can make you feel nauseous. After my vision clears, I get a horrible headache, and it sounds like it's happening to you. I just lie in a dark room, maybe listen to some soft music unless that hurts your head (it depends on the severity), and take some painkillers. Hopefully it will go away soon!!

How are you doing s0ccer princess? Hope you're ok! *hugs* What you described with your eye sounds like a migraine - my Dad gets them just the same. His eyes get blurry, then he feels n*. Just take it easy, close your eyes for a while and try not to panic. Sounds like you might just need a bit of a lie down ^_^ Think positive thoughts, you'll be ok!

How are you today? I also think what you had was a migraine - you had all the classic symtoms ie excrutiating headache, loss of vision and nausea. Migraines are horrible things.

When I get a migraine the very first symptom is the loss of vision, it starts with like a ripply effect in one eye, like I am looking at a reflection in water, then Iget a total blind spot. I know to take painkillers at this stage as I've got a migraine coming.

    Thank you everyone!

I'm sorry I couldn't reply, I had to get off the computer.

Anyway- I took all of your advice, and took a looooong, hotbath and it got better

I'm still feeling a bit..bleurgh but we got a notice at school today saying that the local health authority has detected an outbreak of this virus in our area- a stomach virus I think. So it could be something to do with it.

I'm slightly apprehensive about the virus, but I've been told we do have a pretty high chance of contracting it. But then again we have to get sick sometimes, and it's just the body's way of dealing with it. I'll probably start talking differently when it starts to get serious :P but remind me of what I said if I do!

    Anyway, thanks everyone

    Hi there, Im in Suffolk!!

I suffer from migraines but not so frequently anymore thank god. It defo sounds like a migraine. I got my last one on Xmas Eve, felt sooooo bad, but probably brought it on myself getting soooooo stressed about being ill over Xmas. My birthday is Xmas day and I look forward to it every year even tho Im now 37, I get so worried and panicked about missing it by being ill!!

My migrainestarted with disturbances in my vision then a bad headache and nausea. You just need to take the tablets atthe onset and rest. Mine was thankfully ok by Xmas day and I could relax a little.

The trouble is I think they are related to stress and stuff like that and at this time of the year it is difficult to remain calm......

It could be the stress of knowing your friend was sick and the migraine. Hang in there:O) It will pass.

Wow, you're all not that far away really!

Yeah, I noticed that quite a few people were ill- with the usual colds and flu type things. Noone suspected anything though, because it seemed no worse than the usual winter viruses. That's why it was kind of surprising when we got the notice- they made it sound rather serious with all of this talk about the local health authority giving out advice and schools being closed.

You're a PE teacher Nicki? Wow! I'm hoping to be one when I'm older

I'm also in an all girls' school, and heard of a few people recently getting ill (my friend like I mentioned who was ill at school). I'm just surprised how bad it apparently is and how a few schools are already closed.

I am in the Richmond area and it seems like a couple of weeks ago everyone around here was sick with the SV...I was totally freeking out, not sleeping, not eating, etc..seems like now it is more of a cold type of thing going around though. hopefully things will calm down in your area and it will pass you by

    That's reassuring

I still think it's not all that more serious than the usual things which go around this time of the year. :S

I remember the last time a big epidemic hit my area- it was when I was in Year 6 (I'm in Year 10 now), and everyone got ill, me included. I hope it isn't as big as that, but even if it is, because I am older (and hopefully wiser :P), I'll take more precautions.

Hi, I am new to the site and was so surprised that there even IS a site and multiple sites from what I have been reading here. Anyway I have had my phobia for quite a while. I'd say 10-15 years. I was just wondering about the general consensus here. It doesnt seemlike anyone is talking about getting over this and dealiong with it. There are a lot of threads about avoiding v* and fighting nasuea and what videos to stay away from and moving out b/c a family member is sick. I dont know. These are things i feel like I want to STOP doing. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the site and the support here and the comraderie and not feeling alone. Its great. But i just want to get a read on what the culture of the site is i guess. Please respond and show me the ropes of the site and the phobia, as i have not done so much in thwe way of research.

    Thanks

    Jason

    Welcome!

Firstly, there's a whole forum dedicated to treatment here: http://www.emetophobia.org/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=8

It may seem like there are not many options, but the thing about this phobia is that it cannot be cured simply like *that*. The most common treatment I think is exposure therapy, which I understand is about exposing yourself gradually to something which would normally trigger a negative reaction in you. You start off withthe mild triggers(i.e. a picture of a person looking queasy or just writing out the word vomit), before moving on to more graphic ones (a person being ill for example).

It will no doubt be explained better in there lol.

The thing which deters some people I think is partly a time factor. I'm very busy with school myself, which would make it very hard to set aside time for treatment. You also have to be physically/emotionally/mentally prepared and ready. You have to really want to be cured. I for one canadmit I'm not at this stage yet. While I would love to be free of all of this, it won't be an easy journey to cure it.

Anyway, your attitude seems great- I know at first I wasn't that brave about tackling it! Be sure to check out the treatments forum, where you'll be able to find lots of useful information to help you.

    Good luck!

That definately sound like you have a migraine. Did you see like an 'aura' before the pain came? Take an Advil or Tylenol and lie down in a quiet room. A hot bath might help too. Kim

You just have to keep thinking that you'll get through this, no matter how bad it seems at the moment.

Let me know how youre doing, Im thinking of you.
