    This is quite a simple post. How many guys in here are emets? As a male I feel like a complete wuss, and it would be nice to relate to someone who was of the same gender as me. I always feel I'm supposed to be the one who puts the bread on the table among various other things due to preconditioned gender roles, and I always feel inadequate because I can't at this time. I've noticed also that a lot of women can be obnoxious when they find out you can't tackle this and will ridicule you because of it. Obviously, this doesn't go for the women in this forum. I thank all ofthose who are supportive.

    I'm female but hehe xD this question has been asked many times so there are other male emets here---er...just dont know where they disappeared to. ._.;;

    I think there are a lot of people in general that just ridicule both genders for having this. I dont receive much sympathy for this from my family or friends.Edited by: wing

    I didn't mean to single out women if that's the way it came across. I just never meet many women who are "gentle" regarding the manner. They brag about v* after getting loaded at bars in my area. The other night I entered a panic at someone's house, and the women who werepresent argued over who was going totake me home since I didn't have transportation. One of them happened to be my best friend's overly obnoxious girlfriend who happened to have the keys to one of the vehicles. Mind you - this was during a game of Trivial Pursuit. It's more important to get the final piece of the pie in the game than drive someone home while he's nearing hyperventilation. I paced back and forth in the kitchen for a good five minutes until Chris took the keys, glowered at his girlfriend and drove me home.

    Asa, you can count me as one, but the online emetophobia community is overwhelmingly female. In the surveys for my web site, 83 percent of emets are female. As I note in my FAQ, it's surprising given how male-dominated most of the Internet is. I have been a part of several online emet communities over the past 8 years, and they have all been almost entirely women. There was even a scholarly article about emetophobia a few years ago (drawn from the online emet world) and its survey was based on 50 women and only 6 men.

    Perhaps there are more women emets because women vomit more often than men. In my survey of non-emetophobics, women reported having vomited 4.9 times on average in the past year, while for men the figure was only 1.4 times. The women said a typical year for them is 1.49 illnesses causing vomiting while men reported 0.9 such illnesses. All of the measures find women vomiting more often than men. The average woman most recently vomited just over two years ago while for the average man, it was almost four years. This suggests that being a "non-vomiter" (never or rarely vomiting) is much more common for men than for women. In the same survey, 59 percent of non-emetophobic men said vomiting is worse, but 60 percent of non-emetophobic women said nausea is worse. This might help explain why women vomit more often than men.

    Perhaps men are less likely to join an online support group like this one. I hear from more male emets in response to my FAQs proportionately than who post here at IES. There is also a higher proportion of men on my vomit streaks page than in the online emetophobia community.

    Doug
