There's a really nasty bug going around my Uni at the moment which is causing people to V* for three or four days solid. A friend had it last week and my other friend has it at the moment. She's been V* for three days now and kept running out of our rehearsals this morning before we sent her home.

I'm terrified. I can NOT get this bug because I just won't cope with it. I could barely cope today knowing my friend was in the same room as me after being sick.

Please please please help because I'm going out of my mind with worry. I don't know what to do.

    Jenno,

I hope you don't get the bug and that everyone in your life is feeling better ASAP.

What is the deal with the UK and stomach viruses? It seems like the only thing I ever hear from there is that they've got some new bug that's going around and it's usually something quite terrible. Is England like a huge day care center where the bugs just never stop going around? Or is their surveillance better and they just know more about what's going around than we do in America?

Doug, it could be because England is so much smaller than the US, things are much more localised so even if the bug only spreads withn about a 20 mile radius, thats a much higher percentage of the country than it would be in US so people here about it more.

Yeah, I hated when those type of viruses when around my college too! I was always so scared and would stay in my room - except for classes - or I would go and *hide* in the library when I had to get out of my room. Studying outside also happend if I really needed away from the world and the weather allowed for it.

All you can do is take your vitamins, get your rest, and stay hydrated. Viruses are horrible in college/ uni and sleeping really does help keep your body's immune system up. I would really just avoid people you know who have been sick and just give yourself some "personal time". Tell your friends that too... and they should understand.

    Hi guys.

Thanks for all your help and advice.

I'm doing ok-ish now. Unfortunately the bug is still going round and is as strong as ever. My friend has now been V* for a week and is really poorly. Another friend has come down with it now too. I had a panic attack yesterday because my friend left the computer room to beS* and I just couldn't cope. I'm touching wood that I'll be ok as I still haven'thad it yet *touches wood again* but my immune system's down because I've come down with a chest infection.

Keep your fingers crossed, and thanks again for your messages.

    Hi there

I am new to this forum, but im also from the UK. I know what its like to have a horrible bug going round at uni. I graduated last year but it happened to me in my first year of uni when living in halls. 6 out of the 8 of us got the stomach bug on my corridor and i was in a panic that i would get it!. Luckly for me, my parents didnt live to far away from the uni and i went home one night. Unfortunalty that same night as i got home, i was ill the whole night, but the best thing to do if you share a kitchen with your friends, is re wash all your dishes and keep the kitchen area absalutly spotless. It stops any spreads.

I am a teacher now and i am always catching colds from my kids!!, However im so glad that the reception people deal with sick children, i can just send them out my classroom before they are ill.!

Keep healthy, try multivitamins or actimel that can work

    Take care x

Nicki - I'm at the Central School Of Speech And Drama. We don't have halls of res. so I'm still living at home, but due to the nature of my course I'm in close contact with people 10-5 every day.

I posted my last message too soon it seems. I didn't sleep at all last night because I felt so s*. To make matters worse my dad was s* at 5am, which sent me into utter panic mode.
I'm still feeling really s* and bloated now, although my mum thinks it's just cos I'm over tired because I've been so busy this week.
A friend who's had this bug said hers started with a day of feeling s* then spent the next two days v*.

    I'm still really scared. I can't have this bug, I just can't!

    Jenno -

The best advice I can give ANYONE who is starting to feel crummy or feel like they are coming down with a bug? It may be completely CRAZY, but I usually avoid eating for a day or two. I will eat light things like soda/saltine crackers, toast, soup and ginger ale.

I was sick over Christmas break with what I think was a stomach bug, but I avoided the v*ing because I didn't have anything on my stomach. There was nothing to v*! I had d*, and severe n*.

Most people say I would've probably felt better if I had just let myself v*, but I don't have the guts to get through it...

    Hey!

Feeling tonnes better today *touch wood* I think the sickness was just me being over tired and a complete emet!

I've only eaten toast up and drunk fizzy water up until about an hour ago when I had something more substantial. Still feeling ok. So *touch wood* all is ok. I'm hoping starving myself for 24 hours helped...

    Thanks everyone!
