I forgot to metion when I started this post that I am currently driving a Pontiac Montana. I like the room, but lately here we have had nothing but trouble with it. Id love an SUV, but I worry about having to gas that thing up!!!

We actually just traded in my VW Jetta for a Nissan Altima and I LOVE IT! If you want an SUV I can tell you that I had a Ford Escape and loved it and it's one of the better SUVs on gas, the only reason I got rid of it was because I drive a lot for work and it was killing me with the gas prices being so high! I just traded my Jetta which I also loved because I am having a baby in May and I already have a 5 year old - 2 car seats don't fit well in a Jetta. I don't want a mini-van because I'm just not ready to be that "soccer mom" but the Altima is a nice looking car with enough room. It's great on gas too!

I have a BMW 735iL, which has been my dream car for years!!!!! I LOVE the room in the back, and the luxury-ness of the interior. It rides very smooth and I feel my family is safe in it because it's a good-sized car. Oh, and it's pretty too The ONLY bad thing is, is that it's a gas-guzzler, so this is our only car right now. Hubby is looking to buy a '67 Chevy Chevelle conv. in the next couple of months though, which I wouldn't recommend.

lol---I have to agree with aar13 on the mini-van issue, not that they're bad, but I would never feel comfortable with one.Edited by: californiagirl

We have a Toyota Highlander, and for an SUV it is reasonable on the gas (I think about 18). A girlI work with hasa Honda Pilot and she said it gets pretty good gas mileage - somewhere in the low 20's I think, which is pretty goodfor an SUV. I also like both the Highlander and the Pilot because you can get the third row, so you get the seating capacity of a minivan without having to drive a minivan. Plus you get the reliability of Honda and Toyota. Our other car is a Honda Accord and we haven't had a problem with either one of them. We are hoping they last us for a long time!

I thought about getting a GMC Envoy with the third row seat in it, but Im so used to the room of a van, Ive test driven one and the first row of seats are really close to the driver. Can any of you guess what my first thought was with that?!? And here I am TRYING to stay positive!!

IF I could have what I really want, it would be a Chevy Tahoe, or Suburban, or a Ford Expedition. I know those would be bad on gas though.

I don't drive a car but my mom has a Buick Rondezvous and it's great. It doesn't really give off the feel of a mini-van and it has seating for seven. The only problem I have with it is getting in the WAY back seat. See out of my three sisters I'm always the one who gets stuck riding in the back and I have to climb over the seats and what not.

My dad drives a Toyota Camry, and it's rather big and roomy in the back seat. My sister drives a Volvo. It's really nice, with leather interior but it's an old car and it's starting to fall apart. HA on THEM Cause they never gave ME a car to drive but they were more then happy to GIVE my sisters a car! (If you can't tell I'm not too happy about not having a car)

Anyway, the Rondezvous is nice. Look in to getting one of those. I never hear my mom complaining about gas either.

I have had two Saturns in the past, and it they were great! I would love to get a Ion, or a Vue. But, what I want most, is a Hyundai Santa Fe. I love them.

What I actually drive, right now, is a 1991 Pontaic 6000 LE Definately like the Pontaic though, looked into Pursuits, but have no money right now!

PS....I was in a bad roll-over with Saturn #1, and the only thing dented was the roof, and all three of us in the car, walked away! The car was a write off, but we were all fine (damn, I LOVED that car!)

We only drive Nissans! I love Nissan. My sister and her husband recently bought a Jeep Cherokee. They haven't had too many problems with gas, they said it is better than they thought. Toyota 4runners are great, too. Guess it depends on if you want an suv that you can be rough with or one that is pretty.

    Leigh,

I actually drive a GMC Envoy--7 passenger with the 3rd row seat--and I love it! It was my birthday present from my hubby last year. We usually put the 3rd row of seats down since we rarely drive that many people around. When you put both the middle and 3rd row down, it gives you lots of room! On the weekends, my husband and I fight about who is going to drive because the Envoy is so much fun to drive! The bad part is, gas mileage isn't that great. It usually costs us anywhere from $50-$65 to fill it up since it has a 25 gallon tank and we fill up at least once per week.

My husband has a Honda Accord and a GMC Sonoma quad-cab that he alternates driving to and from work. The Sonoma is actually pretty fun to drive, too, but since it's kind of masculine, I don't drive it that often.

Good luck on car shopping and let us know what you decide on!

My van isnt much cheaper on gas, and it has a 20 gallon tank. So I spend atleast $40 to fill it up. It didnt used to be that bad when gas was actually under $2.00 a gallon!! We already have one gas guzzler, my husbands truck.

I really like the GMC Envoys though!!!! The Toyota Highlander is pretty too, I dont know if it will have enough room for us, Im gonna look at one this weekend. Im gonna test drive the Envoy too!!

I like the Jeep Grande Cherokee too, I wanted hubby to get that instead of his truck. I dont like driving his truck because its so big!!

My mom has an Envoy. It's nice, but I am partial to foreign cars just because they tend to last longer with fewer problems. Both the Envoy and the Highlander ride really nice though. The Highlander is built on a Camry chassis so it rides like a car whereas the 4Runner is build on the Tundra chassis so it rides like a truck. I don't know about the Envoy though. As far as room goes, with the regular two row Highlander there is actually a lot of room in it. Adults can comfortably sit in the back seat and have plenty of leg room. The cargo area is a decent size too - we take our two labs everywhere with us and they fit comfortably in the cargo area with the back seat up.I think you lose that with the third row though.

Have fun shopping!I actually like to go car shopping but I am too much of an impulsive buyer - it gets me in trouble. I hope you find something good!

I test drove an Envoy the last time we were looking for a vehicle. Sure was nice. Seemed to have alot of room too. Of course a Suburban is the epitome of comfort, but ouch, that gas bill!!! A coworker got a Ford Freestyle, and it's sort of a combo between a station wagon, SUV and van. It's neat, but I think you're looking for more room.... good luck! Looking for cars can be really stressful. I drive a GMC Jimmy and it's terrible on gas AND small!!!

I have a friend that has a Chevy Blazer, it was great until their first child was born. Now she wishes she could trade up to something bigger. She really likes it though, she just wants more room now, especially since they are trying for baby number two!!

I only drive Honda/Acura. I love them. My husband just recently bought me
an 06 Accord EX V-6 with Navigation. I love it. I don't want ANYTHING else
ever!!! It drives well, gets 28 mpg highway, 23 in the city. The navigation is
invaluable. The V-6 gives it all the pep I'll ever need. The backseat has TONS
of room... and it has bun warmers so when your buns are cold in the
    winter... you can toast them!!

I drive a 2003 Lincoln Navigator. I love it. When we first got I was actually scared to drive it because it is big. I love it and wouldnt trade it for nothing. It has the 3rd seat that folds down.

Its about the size of a Ford Excursion or Ford Expedition.

The downfall is the gas mileage...13 miles in city and 15 on hwy! YIKES!Edited by: madisonsmom

See, I want something big like that, but I cant because of the gas issue. Actually affording the payments wouldnt be so bad, but the miles I have to travel would really burn us on gas!!!! Thats why I am looking at the smaller SUV'S. I drove one of those Dodge Durango's a while back and they are so nice. The one I drove was black, tinted windows, sunroof, DVD player, V6 or V8, it was awesome. Ive decided that I am just gonna have fun looking, and not jump into something. Tis hard though ........

Well, Leigh, I guess you got me into the car buying mood. As I said earlier, we loved our Envoy--it was a great vehicle. But, we have a camper and the Envoy can tow it, but it puts a lot of stress on the Envoy. Hubby and I had been talking about getting something bigger for a while anyway. So, we went "looking" on Saturday and ended up buying a 2005 Toyota Sequoia (not sure how to spell that). It is their full size SUV--eight passengers. We have heard how much better quality Toyota and Honda has, so we decided to go that route. It has a much larger towing capacity, so we wont worry about putting too much strain on a vehicle. We hope to keep this one a while...we'll see!

Let us know when you decide to buy something!

Totota and Honda are great vehicles. They seem to last longer with fewer problems that some of their American counter parts. My father in law had a Toyota truck that he drove for over ten years, I think it had 200,000 miles on it when he got a new one. He had been thinking about buying a new one, but wasnt in a hurry to do it. However, one morning on his way to work, he hit a deer, so then he went out and bought a new truck!! Toyota is about all my in-laws will drive. My father in law has two Toyota trucks now, and my ma in law has a Camry. I think that if we do buy another van, it will be one of those Toyota Sienna's. I so want an SUV though!!

I drive a Mazda MPV van which I really like - just wish I'd gotten the DVD player. I went on maternity leave and needed a 2nd car, we'd gotten by with a 98 Saturn for years - hubby still drives it. I love Saturn. But anyway, I knew I'd be chauffering around two kids and my mother, which meant two carseats, a stroller and a walker and I refused to consider anything smaller than a minivan.
