My son is 11 and he got a guitar for Christmas and really wants to learn to play it which is fine and I got all excited that he wanted to do something musical because I am quite musical myself but .......

I rang his friends dad who I know does lessons and he has said he will teach him and to bring him round on a Wednesday night, but all I keep on thinking about is what if he has a lesson and the teacher has a bug! I will worry about it every Wednesday when he has his lesson and for 48 hours after every week! I can't not let him go and have his lesson because he really wants to do it!

Do you stop him from going to school cos his school teacher might have a bug? Do you stop him from doing anything outside of school, just incase?

My son (aged 9) plays guitar and has been going to someone's house for the last 2 and a half years. In that time he has been sick once, but he caught it from his sister. He's never picked up anything from his teacher, or his three kids.

Kids generally pick up bugs from kids not adults who are ill far less. It's highly unlikely he'll get ill. Just get him to wash his hands when he gets back, if you're still anxious.

This is one of those occasions when we let our emet impact on others, and you know, like i do, that it's wrong to do this. He's going to get so much out of this and it will make him grow in so many ways, and make you proud too when you see how he progresses. Let him go, please!Edited by: suze

Thanks Suze, you are absolutely right. No I don't stop him from going to school- I know in my heart it is wrong to think this and I will let him go!

    I really appreciate your advice.

    Thanks

think of how proud you'll be a couple years down the road when your son
can serenade you like a pro while you're cooking dinner. (lol
maybe he won't want to, but who paid for the lessons?)

    stay strong!

I teach guitar! It would be so cool if you lived near me....we'd probably feel safer knowing that we are both emets! But, it will be fine...I have never caught anything fromor given anything to any of my students!
