well yeah, that's basically the gist of things. I need to find someone out there who's real fear lies in the sickness of others and not themselves being sick. I have never had that fear, and I need to know that there is someone else out there like me, reading things here makes me realize that something can be done to help me, hopefully I just need to find someone otu there to help me and someone I can identify with!

taby- you found her. I don't like vomitting, but don't fear it. However, having to deal with someone else vomitting causes me to panic, and flee the situation if possible. I have gotten a lot better over the years, but damn, I am going to get over this phobia if it's the last thing I do.

I just know how completely irrational and illogical the whole situation is- I can handle myself vomitting, and know it's no big deal- but why do I think it is when it happens to someone else?

i'm almost the complete opposite. i can see and hear other people throw up (you become very accustomed to that when you're in college!) i just fear doing it myself. if i know someone isn't contagiously throwing up, it never bothers me. if they're contagious and there's a chance i'll get sick, then i panic.

I'm definitely more afraid of others throwing up. It's probably because before I got morning sickness twice this past month I didn't do it in 11 years. Two months ago my son got a bug and then my husband got it two days later. I was able to handle my son throwing up better than my husband for some reason. I could hear my son--he did it 5 different times--but was not at home the 1st time my husband did and was asleep the 2nd time he did. My husband vomited on two other occasions (three total) in the 5 years I have known him and I have not seen or heard any of them. But I am very anxious knowing that it is inevitable that someday I will have to see or hear it. I don't know what to expect and am thinking the worst. When I was 12 years old my mom vomited on many occasions in the middle of the night very loudly retching and woke me up each time. I am afraid he will be like that. The experience with my mom really set my emet into motion. I hope he is not loud and does not draw it out. I'm really scared just thinking about it and it might not happen for years to come. But I am still scared and anxiously anticipating the next time......I wish I could stop thinking about it. I get upset with my husband when I think about it and it is not even his fault and it was 2 months ago. The not knowing what to expect is just driving me insane!!!!

    Hey Tabycat,

ME TOO! (Except I consider myself successfully treated now, so I don't fear it anymore). But when I was suffering from emetophobia, I ONLY feared other people. And it was SO BAD I was diagnosed with PTSD.

Anyway, when I came on here (4 years ago) I couldn't really find anyone like me, and I thought I was a "freak among freaks"! But then slowly, more people like "us" started coming around, and I realized that this disorder has many dimensions and different sorts of manifestations.

So....welcome! Your "version" of the disorder is fairly straightforward to treat, so that's the good news.

And I'm sure that, like me, if you're home alone...you're totally fine. Unlike a lot of the poor folks who come here.

I agree... I am FINE as long as I know WHY they are getting sick. Drunk people V* give me the chills, but at least I know they aren't going to make me sick in the process. I get "grossed out", but I don't just want to sympathy V* because of it or anything.

I also cannot stand the thought of myself getting sick. I just cannot handle myself sick in any way, shape or form, to my stomach! Talk about panic???

well it's good to know that there are others out there like me. Especially that someoone out there has been like me and is "cured"or at least can deal. I have started with counseling this week and will hopefully be gettin better and will share any successes here or with anyone who cares to know. As for now, I'm upset for other reasons that I won't bring here because there are other people involved

Definitely keep us updated at your progress- and let me know what works/doesn't work for you, because I'm looking to start treatment myself

I hope that the other reasons why you are upset also clear themselves up.

    Good luck!
