The other morning I noticed by neighbours husband taking her children to school. Straight away I thought, I donder why Leeza isnt taking the children to school - god what if she has a bug. I couldnt stop thinking about it, and in the end I had to ring her just to say 'hi' but really to see how she was (without letting on that was why I was ringing!) and she was absolutely fine. It was just that her husband was on holiday and had decided to take the kids to school for her! Why do our minds instantly think that just because somebody isnt doing the norm they have a sickness bug!

I think that we all do the same thing, but it helps to put it into perspective and realize that in fact it isn't all that often that it happens... Like neesy said 9 out of 10 times it isn't. I think that we are so fixated about it that it just stands out.

But if they do, I then ask 100 questions like, were you sick, how long did you feel sick for, what did you eat last night, have you been near anyone that has had a bug and so on and so on! I analyse the whole situation and try and make myself feel better that way!

I have done the same, I think we all have. It's a case of the 'What If's'. I still catch myself over anaylizing things to the point where they cannot be analyzed any more, if there was anything to anaylize in the first place. And I still have trouble saying SO WHAT! to what if?

I do the same thing... my neighbor's car was home one day a couple weeks ago and I immediately thought he was sick. His girlfriend's car was home the next day, and that just confirmed it!!! I find myself glancing at their house to see if there's lights on.....

Does anyone else wake in the middle of the night and look out of the window and notice if there are any lights on, if so, straight away do you think someone is being sick? Also, if I have been out late and I am coming home (2 in the morning that sort of time), and as I am driving by I see lights on and think someone must be sick.

    That is paranoia isn't it!

From my experience, it's both paranoia and obsessive thinking. It is apart of the Catastrophic Thinking Pattern. I used to focus so much energy on thinking about getting sick alone, that I would miss out on my responsibilities; it interfeared with my everyday routine.

The more I thought about it, the more scared I became, and the more scared I became, the more I would think about it, and the more I would think about it, the more physical symptoms of anxiety would appear.
