Hi everyone!

I don't really post much on the site, but I come here everyday and observe what each of you has to say. It's so good to know that I'm not the only person out here who deals with this horrible phobia!

Anyway, I am in such a major panic right now because my husband left yesterday on a Snowboarding trip to Vermont until Thursday. I pray every night before I go to bed that my daughter doesn't wake up v*ing, but back in November of course that nightmare became reality. Now I'm sooooo scared that she's going to get sick while he's away and I'm home with her all alone. Although he is never very supportive and I always take care of her when she's sick it just makes things worse to know that I'm all by myself!!!

I know everyone else does the same thing and I just wish I didn't do this to myself! I barely slept lastnight just worrying and I have 3 more nights to go until he comes home. Even when he is home though, I still worry. Just like other moms out there, I feel horrible and like I'm a bad mom - but the only time I am worry free is every other weekend when she sleeps at her dad's.

I just wish I could be normal like all of the non-emets out there that are just so care free. The stress of this worrying is really not good for me right now since I am 6 months pregnant, but there's not much I can do. I wish I could take a Xanax before bed to calm down and help me sleep, but I can't. Does anyone have any stress relieving/anti-anxiety remedies to try out??

I need something to help me calm down because I'm really freaking out!

    Thanks for listening! Alissa

Ohh hun, we tend to do things like that to ourself ... When i'm having trouble like that I just sit down, listen to myself (and listen to how silly I sound, lol )and then try to calm myself down.

First assess the situation, is your daughter in any dangerof vomiting? Could she have gotten a flu, food poisoning fromanyone at school? Does she have any illnessesthat causes her to vomit? How is shenow? Is she complaining of any pain, or that she feels sick?

Me and Crystal were talking about earlier how yoga can really relax you. Or just doing excercise, it's good for the body But ask yourself, what makes you calm? A pot of tea? Chocolate helps me, BUT NOT TOO MUCH!! Amber calls it chocolate remorse .. :P

Yeah chocolate is always very nice to have, I don't usually eat it (except for that time of the month) When I get really nervous or stressed out I just take a nice hot bubble bath and then lay down and watch TV or listen to some of my favorite music. If you can't do that then try deep breathing. Take in a deep breath, hold it till the count of ten and then let it out and count to ten. That always relaxes me. I'm sure your daughter will be fine. Thank you guys so much! I will try my best to calm myself down - like take a bath or deep breathing, etc. I just can't help but worry about this. For some reason it's just my worst fear that she will wake up in the middle of the night and all of a sudden be sick. She wasn't exposed to anything at all that I know of, but I just worry about it. It is constantly running through my mind and now since my husband is gone until Thursday I'm just worried it will be my luck that she gets sick while he's gone. Like I said, he's not any help to me or sympathetic to my fear, but I'd atleast feel a little better if he was here.

    Thanks for listening. Alissa

Great relaxation tips! I especially agree with Monica - I do meditative breathing and she described it exactly to a "T" - but make sure you concentrate on the breathing, and only the breathing, while you do it. And I always breathe in through my nose, and out through my mouth (the hairs in your nose are a natural filter against bacteria and viruses).

I don't have kids, but I would think that since their immune systems are still developing, they get sick more often- and that if she does get sick, I'm sure it's something that your immune system can "trash" without even a blink. Just keep your hands away from mouth, eyes, nose, etc. and keep clean and hygienic. I myself (without kids) have gone for 14 years so far without a sv (hope that doesn't jinx me!).

I am in NJ/NYC, I would offer my help to you if you are in my area if your daughter does get sick. It's my own form of exposure therapy, but I have helped out a lot of my friends when their kids get sick and never once caught anything from them. She'll most likely be fine, but "i'm there for you" if you need me!

Thank you Porsche1987944 for the nicest offer to help. I am actually in Eastern PA right near the border of NJ, that's too funny. Are you in Eastern NJ near NYC? I would never impose on anyone but that was so nice of you to even suggest helping out. We made it through the night lastnight, YAHOO, and we just have 2 more nights to go until atleast my husband is back home.

I actually slept ok lastnight too, thank god because I needed it. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Sure, let us know how things are going along. I'm actually at the NJ coast during weekdays and in NYC on weekends. I find that nomatter how miserable being around sick people is, when I help my friends, it keeps my mind busy and gives me purpose, as well as a sort of "exposure" therapy. The more I help my friends when their kids get sick, the more I prove to myself that just because I take care of a sick child, doesn't mean I'm automatically going to get it myself.

Besides, I definitely want kids one day and want to get over as much of this fear as possible before I get stuck panicking with a sick kid, ha ha.

And remember to get your sleep! It'll keep your immune system in top shape!

Hi Alissa! I'm also here if you need me being a fellow mom. I'll send you my email address in case this site goes down again or something or if you just need to talk.
