My dh is sick. He had diarrhea two days ago and I thought he just caught it from me, but now he has a fever (I never got one) and a sore throat and is feeling nauseous! He's got chills too. Do you think this is a stomach bug or something else?

I can't sleep. Every little noise is freaking me out. I don't want to fall asleep and then have him wake up v*. Ugh.

It could really be anything- all you can really do is sit tight and hope for the best

The sore throat leads me to believe it may be the flu- or even strep. When I had strep over the summer I had a high fever (102-103) and felt a bit nauseous. Not to the point where I felt I was going to vomit, but I do know that for some people, strep can upset their stomachs. When he wakes up, ask him if his throat is more scratchy, or if it actually aches. Also, you can check the outside of his throat- right below the jawline to see if his glands are swollen. A big sign of strep is also puss in the throat- which may make him spit, or when he clears his throat feel like he is bringing up mucus.

If he has a fever, try something like Tylenol to bring it down. That may make him feel better, because even having a fever can make you feel nauseous. Also, tons of liquids- I would usually say ginger ale, but if you have a sore throat the carbonation hurts like a mutha When he's awake try some tea, or even soup- something warm that will be soothing on the throat, and so he will have something in his stomach.

I hope he feels better! Be cautious, but don't let yourself freak out over it, especially if you don't necessarily know what it is yet. If it makes you feel any better, I know that for myself, if I am going to vomit I will wake up 10-15 minutes before it actually happens, which gives me plenty of time to get to the bathroom. I seriously think that your body knows when it's going to happen, and tries to give advance warning. It knows that it can be dangerous to vomit while sleeping- so it usually only happens if the person is incapacitated in some way due to drugs or alcohol.

A few people I know have had a virus that is basically tons of diarrhea and weakness, but no vomit. He could have something. But, his system could also just be "off" right now, too. Just hang in there. You will be okay.

Hmmm...okay, I guess my hubby started feeling dizzy and weak the day before, then had the fever and sore throat yesterday.

He slept almost all day today and got up and laid on the couch shortly before I had to leave for work at 4:30. When he woke, he said he wasn't nauseous anymore, his throat didn't hurt as bad. But he still had a low fever and was weak.

Then, after working 6 hours, I came home tonight and he's feeling a lot better! I brought him chicken soup and he was really hungry and ate it all. His fever is gone.

I'm thinking this was a mild case of the regular flu, not a stomach bug. Whew! I just hope I don't get it. I need some $$$ and would hate to call off work.

    Heather,

I am so glad to hear that he is feeling better!! Maybe you should go get some Airborne (have you heard of that?) at the pharmacy, Greg and I have started taking it, he takes it every day before work to prevent getting airborne illnesses!

Well. Eric went to work this morning. He couldn't sleep well last night b/c he slept all day. He called me at noon and said he was going to the doctor because he felt worse than ever! Poor baby! Hopefully he'll be home soon and I can take care of him.

Yup. It's the flu. Poor guy. Now he's awake at 3 in the morning, saying he has a "throw up taste" in the back of his throat but he's not nauseous. Weird. He has heartburn from time to time, and he already took Rolaids but doesn't feel any better. Ugh. I hate worrying like this.

Awwhh... Keep us posted on how he is doing. I hate waking up with that taste, but I have acid reflux - so I get it often and always in the middle of the night it seems.
