*KNOCKING ON WOOD LOUDLY*

My son has only had one sv so far (he will be 5 in March). I had it within 36 hours. BUT...he actually v*ed ON me, so pretty much guarenteed me I think!

I had another sv prior to that, I was the only one in the house that caught it, although my mom had it a couple days later. Was very surprised my son (who was only 15 months at the time) didn't get it. Luckily, he slept through it since it began in the night, and was finished by morning.

Well that is encouraging Donna. I have been such a wreck lately that I just NEED to know that if they DO bring a virus home, I mabey won't get it . Sometimes I feel like I've just been lucky and my luck must be running out any time. I try to do all the cleaning and lysoling and the whole 9 yards but even with all that , my older child caight IT from my youngest last year and I rack my brain trying to figure out what I did'nt do or what I did wrong.

I caught one once too, but only d*. Felt dehydrated all day but didn't v*. Good job really cos my daughter had it at the same time (all of us caught it from my son) and v* every 20 minutes for 8 hours! My husband who had it too stayed in bed all day!!

Incidentally, my daughter has had two bad sv and during both I was still breastfeeding her. As she was v*g so much, she really needed the comfort, so despite my fears I kept feeding her throughout - and still didn't catch anything!

My daughter was just sick with an sv last weekend and no one else in the house caught it. I have caught one sv, it will be three years ago this Feb. My middle daughter got it first and then we all got it.There has been about 4 others since then and I haven't caught any of them.

My husband has caught sv's twice from our 6 year old son, who seems to get at least one, sometimes two sv's every year. I never caught them, but I never dealt with it directly either. My husband has cuddled and slept in the same bed with our son when he has had sv's and I imagine that is how he caught them.

You're NOT a bad mom, I do the same thing. AND I feed them from plastic and paper products because I don't have a dishwasher. I make them stand an arms length away from me because I'm afraid of flying germ ridden spittle. I wear a mask and gloves for the first few days they're sick. I lysol and bleach so much I'm shocked my pet bunny did'nt die from the fumes last year. If any one is a bad mom here, trust me -it's me!I envy you and most of the moms here on this site because I think you're all so brave. But I'm sorry to say, I'm just not inspired anymore. I'm scared almost all the day and night lately. I'm actually going to see my therapist on Sunday who will and try to help me find a psychiatrist which specializes in phobias.

    Swiftette,

I just wanted to wish you good luck with the phobia specialist and I hope they can find something to give you some relief. Feeling like it's everyday all day and all night is so hard, I'm sure they will find the right medication or therapy to help.I think winter is the worst. I know my anxiety is always worse in the wintertime.Paper products are a great idea, reallypaper towels in the bathroom instead of a regular towel for handwashing makes perfect sense when you think about it.I should just hang the papertowel roll dispenser instead of the towel rack next tothe sinks in my bathroom - maybe I'll suggest to my husband. I knowI'll get the classic eye roll but he'll probably do it anyway.

    swiftette,

I wish I could wear a mask!!!! That would freak my oldest one out and make her stomach worse!!!!

You're not a bad mom, either. I worry day and night as well--check out my post in the private forum if you haven't already!!

Luckily, of my three kids, we've dealt w/SV* very little!! My 19-yr. old had it only once in his life, my 17-yr. old had it twice and my 14-yr.old had it twice. I've never caught it from them, never been V* on either. I myself have V* 4 times in my life. Wow, whew!!

Swiftette, it is so funny that you say you hate January. I have said that so many times this week. The last stomach bug I got where I actually threw up was when my 4 year old was a newborn. My husband talked me into leaving the house and going to his sister's to celebrate his niece's birthday. I didn't want to go - had bad pp depression and am a total germophobe but I went anyway. The entire family except the baby got the stomach bug. Since then my son has had it a few times but if I've gotten it I've just had the diarrhea part. I can handle that ok. But I do HATE JANUARY! My son got the dreaded bug around the time my husband goes on his annual January ski trip last year and the same time this year.

As a kid, I always got a sv in October. It was always on a weekend. I used to dread Saturdays in October. It's weird now, that the sv I have caught (aside from the last on in January 2004) were in weird months like June and September.

I hate January only because it is long and yucky. There is nothing good that happens, and being in Alberta, usually means cold. (Except this year!). February doesn't do much for me either. At least in March, you think spring is coming! Plus, it's my son's b-day!!!

Ok, I feel like such a horrid mom. My 4 year old came home yesterdayfrom the long weekend with his dad when he had the tummy bug. He was so happy to see me and wanted hug after hug after hug. I was actually cringing and trying to keep my face as far away from him as possible and as soon as I could get away from him I was washing my hands and bathing them in Purell. I work in a lab and even brought home some latex gloves for when I have to help him potty. Am I pathetic or what??????

No you are'nt horrid. Before I had kids, I thought the only thing (as am emet. )hard about making the decision to have them was morning sickness.Stomach virus worriesare SO much worse.

Tell me about it. I didn't worry about them nearly as much until I had a child. This morning he peed in his pants because he was too lazy to get up from in front of the TV (I was already late for work and not a happy camper) so I had to change all that and of course since I was rushed I forgot about my gloves. Then I went and scrubbed and purelled myself. I'm not going to have any skin left on my hands by the time winter is over.

well I'm only 20 and not anywhere near close to having kids, but honestly my biggest fear is that I won't be able to deal with them when they get a SV, but yeah...I'm not afraid of catching myself, or myself being sick, my phobia is souly about others and their sickness. It's really strange, but I don't know how I'll deal with it when it comes around

Hi my son is 11 and I have never caught one! (touch wood)! I havent been sick in 31 years.

I know what you mean about being pregnant I was worried about the morning sickness but the worry about sickness bugs now is even worse (I didnt even think of that when I got pregnant!).

Everyday it is there in your mind isnt it no matter what you are doing!

    I agree, it's always on my mind. . . I hate this!!!

Charlene gives me hope though, I have only v'ed 4 or 5 times in my whole life, the last time was 20+ years ago, and I had 3 younger sisters and never caught anything from them, so hopefully I can make it and not catch anything from my kids!!

LOL!

Cor I wish I could look at them in that way - so many people say - 'I hope i catch that bug that is going round, maybe I can shed a few pounds!' I just look at them aghast!

Me too! I can't look at it that way either. Sometimes I *almost* wish I would just get it and get it over with and not worry about it every day any more. But then I'll get a weird feeling in my tummy or something and then think no no no I'd rather have the extra pounds than lose them that way!!!!!!!!
