I have IBS that seems to flare up mostly when I am concerned about a sv* going around. Anyone else here have IBS?? I am convinced that it is a viscious cycle that goes something like this...

    UpsettingStimuli.... Emet symptoms....IBS/Upset stomach/d*/etc.....Anxiety

For example...The stimuli is my child gets the sv*....My emet symptoms kick in (cleaning/sanitizing the house, washing hands like crazy, not "breathing" around sick person, you all know the drill here.).....Then my IBS kicks in (I get d*, my stomach hurts and I feel n*)....Then the anxiety kicks in (Oh, what if I get it, how long should I be scared, what will I do, I can't sleep because I am scared I will get it in the middle of the night, I can't eat too much in case I get sick, etc.)

Can anyone else relate???? I think that this is one of the more profound understandings of this that I have come up with!!!! (Just joking!!!)

I have sort of anxiety induced IBS caused by generalised anxiety disorder and the two things (the constant stomach aches, intestinal spasms, n* etc) really play up against one another and make things quite difficult. I relate to the vicious cycle thing, it took me ages to realise that. I get stomach pain from general anxiety, then emet comes into play and I start catastrophising about how I'm going to v*, which causes more anxiety which intensifies the stomach ache.

Sorry you're going through this I know how hard it can be *hugs* Have you tried going on meds for it? I was given a whole range of different things to help relieve the symptoms.
I traded my dreams for this mess of memories,
And they just stopped working for me.

Yep hun I also have IBS, it is vicous, feel stressed upset worried or anything about the emet and it flaires up and once it has flaired up the there goes the emet.

seems like it isnt one without the other or one after the other.

It is awful and makes you think you are coming down with a sv* when it gets that bad as sometimes you cant determin whether its IBS or a sv*

Sorry to hear you also have this

I absolutely go through the same thing. Get nervous about getting sick, then get so nervous I get an upset stomach and d*, then get more nervous because I think I've caught it. We are our own worst enemies.

I have it and it acts up from time to time, especially when I'm extremely stressed out - which usually makes me stop eating so I don't end up with d*. I hate it and it was REALLY BAD in college, making it quite embarrassing at times.
I\'m always a shade of purple...
