I am totally new to this forum and have a couple of questions..

First off, i would like to say how happy I was to find out about this whole deal! seriously, its comforting reading some of the stuff I have seen on the site. anyways back to the matter(s) at hand.

    1) Do you guys think that sv's are airborne or transmitted only through direct contact with the virus itself? in other words, if I keep my hands clean, and dont put them in my nose, eyes or mouth than could I be totally safe from catching it?

    2) if I were to contract an SV, would the use of antiemetics (phenergen, zofran, etc) actually prevent me from ever v' if taken in time??

    3) is it possible to actually prevent yourself from v' even when you have an SV?

sorry for all these strange questions, but it seems like everyone in my office is coming down with it, and its seriously freeking me out!!!! i hate this time of year, its always tough for me. I have been suffering from this phobia for about 25 years now...

Welcome. Those are not strange questions to those of us hear at all. This time of year has been awful for most of us. I can relate to your problem with your coworkers being sick. About a month ago everyone that I work with had children with the sv* and some of my coworkers got sick too. During those couple of weeks, I could hardly eat, sleep, let alone concentrate on work. I was so afraid of getting it that I would literally shake at night sometimes. Sorry, to answer your questions...To the best of my knowledge....

1)Most are through direct contact, but it there is bodily fluid around, it can be airborne as well I am pretty sure. Washing your hands is always a smart thing to do.

    2) I am not sure...but I do keep Phen on hand in case, I know that it will stop it, I am not sure about preventing.

3)People here have done this all of the time...Check out the vomit streak page.

Also, I caught an sv* a couple of weeks ago and I only had the s* with it for two days. I gave it to my brother and husband and they both had d* and felt n* but did not v*. I don't think that all sv* are the same, everyone is affected different. The absolute best thing that you can do is build your immune system, get plenty of rest, wash your hands often, and avoid direct contact.

I have a prescription for Phenergan that I keep with me at all times and I put so much faith in it that it would keep me from v*. But the last time I was sick I took it and still about 2 hours later I v*. Took another one and then v* again later that night. Took it AGAIN, and then no more v*. It scares me that it might not work for me again.

I actually have a prescription for Zofran that I got a while back before I flew to Mexico...I hear that they are the strongest thing on the market and when I feel sick i usually pop one and it makes me feel better (possibly in my head. problem is that I only have like 2 of them left! I feel the same way this time of year though, my sleep has been awful lately, sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and get so overcome with anxiety that I never even go back to sleep. It has actually gotten to the point that I am thinking of seeing a Psychiatrist. Has anyone here gone that route??
