I'm sure this has been covered at some point, but are all antihistamines anti-emetics? Or is it only the active ingredient in Benadryl? I'm working on getting a cold, and know there's some post-nasal drip going on making my tummy funny, so I'm trying to figure it out. Thanks in advance for checking this out!

    Benadryl is an anti-emetic? Wow.

If that's true it's very useful information because I sometimes get
histamine reactions when I'm overheated but I'm afraid to take benadryl
unless I absolutely can't stand it. Benadryl makes me sleep and I'm
afraid that if I'm in a drug induced sleep I'll v*. I know it's stupid
but....w/e. Emets are weird we all know that.

tcsarah- thanks for the link Always wondered how my motion sickness pills worked (or at least were supposed to work), and now I know!

Good to know that Benadryl has antiemetic properties too...when I get a cold I usually feel nauseous, so will make a point to use this from now on!

Yep, Benadryl is a good anti-emetic.

Also Unisom Sleep tabs with the ingredient Doxylamine Succinate (Unisom also has tabs that have diphenhydramine (which is benadryl) (ITS WONDEFUL--the one with doxylamine in it) I have had terrible morning sickness and for anyone who hasnt experienced it...its like you have a stomach bug. Its awful.

Anyway, I have a prescription for Phenergan too. My ob/gyn gave it to me and told me about the Unisom. I take it with vitamin B6 (great for nausea too) and within 30 minutes my nausea subsides. Try it!!

I like the Unisom/B6 combo better than Phenergan.Edited by: madisonsmom
