As far as I know, you cannot catch anything from dogs, other than feeling grossed out when they v*. Hope your little one is feeling better soon, otherwise get him (or her) to the vet!

You can't catch things from dogs, but some people think that you can get strep from them as they can be carriers...my vet says not.

I believe you can. There is a bacteria that dogs can carry when they get sick and pass it on to humans. I forget what it is called. Someone on here had this problem about 6 months back. It's not like it's common or anything. And dogs tend to get upset stomachs easily, so you don't have to worry too much about it. I am sure your dog is just not feeling too well. Just wash your hands.

I went to school to be a veterinary techincian, so I know a little bit about this stuff. For the most part NO you can not catch virus or bacteria infections from pets, so I would worry about it. The things humans catch from pets are paristies. Now if your pet is v* cause they have a parisite, than there is a chance. But, all parisites are shed in their poop, so unless you go out in the backyard and pick up a piece of poo and eat it, you won't get it. If your pet is having diarrhea also just make sure you wash your hands. That's it. I worked around sick animals all the time, and I never caught anything...In fact the doctors I worked with have been doing this for 50+ years and when I worked there, I asked him before and he has NEVER caught anything. So don't worry!! Just watch your pet and if he doesn't stop v* or gets worse take him in.

Well mitch took the words out of my mouth... I used to assist a vet P/T, and I asked him that very same question.. and he said.. that it is very rare... you just have to wash your hands after touching excretions.

I hope she's allright mandi ^_^ Its awful when pets get ill, because they can't tell you what's wrong, and all you want to do is help. I'm sure she'll be ok!

I heard that it is possible to give your pets colds, if you have one? I have no idea if that's true or not.

I've often wondered in the past if people with pets get sick more often
than those without. Not directly catch something from the pet but for
instance it might be something they drag in the house. Like a dead
mouse. Or maybe they are four-legged fomites?

Nah, I pretty much doubt it.

I'm reasonably sure that one ofmy cats is actually cleaner than I am. She is indoor (in fact, her first foray into the outside world made her MORE of an indoor cat), cleans herself so often that she coughs up a hairball every week or two, and won't drink her water unless it is crystal clear. She is so prissy that she actually likes her bath- the thought of her chasing a mouse is almost laughable.

lol, maybe she's an emet too

Our pets dont go outside. WE have two tiny chihuahuas...plus we live in a loft...so we dont really have a yard....so they use litter boxes! So they arent dragging anythign in from outside. I think maybe she just ate somethign bad? I think she is all better now. She hasnt V* in the past 2 days. *Knock on wood* But she has been sleeping all day. Poor baby. She has really bad allergies...and it casues her hair to fall out so shes bald in some spots...and shes cold all the time! So she just snuggles up in her bad all day. Im glad shes not V* anymore though. I get so panicky when that happens. They are like my kids!
