My sister is not an emet, but she had a question for me that I could not answer. She gave her 15th old a new organic milk last night before bed. She said it smelled funny, but she assumed it was because it was different. The date is 1/20/06 so it was not expired. Her son woke up at 4 a.m. screaming. She assumed he was hungry and gave him another bottle of the new milk. He v*** it up all over the place. She said most of it was curdled. None of his dinner came up. She put him to bed and two hours later he woke up and the same thing happened. He does not have a fever and never did. She said he has been fine all day today. He had some cheerios in the morning and soft foods all day. He has been absolutely himself. His bowels are also normal.

I told her it sounded to me like a sv. She said she thinks its the milk. She smelled it again this morning and she said it smelled off so she threw it away. She is having a weekend party on Friday night and I told her she should cancel it.

    Any opinions?

At this point- if hewasnt sick today, andwas his usual self, it could have been a fluke. It may have been the milk not agreeing with him, it may have been something else. As a kid, I would wake up occasionally in the middle of the night, vomit everywhere, and then wake up fine (usually wondering why the hell I was in different pajamas, haha).

I wouldn't cancel the party unless she is sure that he is sick-sick- generally, if there wasn't a fever it was probably the milk- what usually separates food poisoning from a virus is the rapid onset of the former and the lack of temperature.

Hmmm....guess the moral of the story is that if it smells funny- avoid. You know, I know people who drink milk that has spoiled (unknowingly) or that is on the verge of spoiling (dad).....they have not gotten sick. Guess it depends on the system- your nephew is prety young. Depending on where the milk was processed, it could have been contaminated with something else (organic to meimplies that it may have come froma smaller company...which may not have as strict health guidelines as larger companies- just an unfounded assumption here).

My sister says that in her experience organic milk does not keep as long as conventional milk. She buys the smallest containers possible. I just do the soy milk thing. I do remember when my daughter was 1 and she had spoiled milk, though. We were in the car and she just vomited it all up on herself. No screaming or crying. She just said "YUK". And once she was sick she was fine. I'm kinda thinking virus. Don't know where you are from, but around here there is definitely a 4 hour virus going on. I know.. weird. People are sick a couple times in the night and then totally fine. Maybe it was something like that??? Good luck.
