Today a co-worker of mine, ( she's the bartender, i'm the waitress) said she was feeling sick a couple of times, and I asked her what kind of sick and she said I feel like throwing up, and she said you know I feel sick because I don't even want to go to the clubhouse after work ( a bar she hangs out at after work on mondays). Well I left before her and now i'm worried what if she is coming down with norwalk? I never put my hands in my mouth but I was thinking maybe when she was talking to me throughout the day, what if some spit from her mouth went in to mine? could that be possible? I know they say you can't catch it if their not showing symptoms, but if your nauseaus, then she is showing symptoms, right? What are the chances of me catching it if she is sick!!! I'm so scared right now, i'm off tomorrow, but i'll have to find out if she called in sick and if she did, i'm doomed!!! or not i'm hoping. I keep trying to tell myself not to worry about something that might not happen, but if I could then I probably would't be here asking for help for this f****ing phobia!!

    Sheri-

Even if she is sick, there is no guarantee that you will be sick. And from just talking to her, no physical contact/exchange of fluid, it is unlikely (not going to say impossible- or else I would be psychic, haha) that you would have caught anything from her.

Besides- if she is not feeling well, it may not necessarily be due to a contagious illness- could be something she ate, or something physiological (I was constantly worried about a friend a few years ago because everytime we were together she was really pale and felt ill.....turns out she was pregnant, lol).

I would suggest that you not call in to find out if she called in sick. A) even if she is, no guarantee its contagious/that you caught it, B) she could have just went in to work sick instead of staying home- it happens, andC) if she did call in sick, it would probably make you worry MORE. It seems like a no-win situation, that has the possibility to result in more problems for you.

    Sheri,

I used to work as a cocktail waitress in a strip club (one of the most fun jobs I had!!), and SOOO many times came into contact with a sick bartender, dancer with diarrhea, cutomer recovering from a SV, etc. I had to touch and empty ashtrays, handle glasses that recently sick people drank from. I talked toa sick bartender for my whole 9 hour shift, and also got very close to the dancers (we used to flirt alot). I never once got sick, thank goodness!! I think that some people get sick for many reasons, like poor diet, drugs, alchohol abuse, etc. I'm not talking about the people in the club exclusiely, but people everywhere. I can't tell you for sure that you won't catch anything from her, all I can offer is try to stay calm and remember that she may have just felt sick, not actually gotten sick and even if she did, it may very well have been from a different cause rather than a SV. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!!

Charlene brought up some excellent, albeit very frightening points.

And you might remind her that it's her duty to comply with regulations
and tell the manager that she feels sick. There's a reason why ill
workers are not supposed to be there.

And unless you were right up in her face, I wouldn't worry about saliva
getting from her mouth into yours. Like Amber said, it could be
anything. She could be suffering from any number of things.

Well i went back to work on Thursday and asked her how she was doing, and she said that that night she kept running to the bathroom thinking she was gonna throwup but she just kept burping and never got sick, the next day she was fine and went to work, now today a girl that works in a snack bar next to our bar, said l yesterday she was feeling sick and same thing about the burping when she went home too, except she said she had really bad d*, today she was fine at work, in fact she hwas eating a big ole bowl of meatloaf with ketchup!, but then she tells me that a guy that works at my bar went home feeling sick after I had left for the day, I was right next to him the whole day, talking to each other here and there!!! What do you think this is? First one gets sick on a Monday the next two on a Friday, does that mean there is a 4 day incubation? Oh s**t it's gotta be airborne, or how else would thay have all got the same thing? They didn't eat the same thing as far as I know.WOW, I really need to get a life and stop anylyzing every stomach problem people have!! Edited by: sheri-baby

    Hi Sheri-Baby,

I know exactly how you feel; on Thursday 15 December I started a new temp secretarial job in the city and one of the girls sitting behind me had come into work with a SV (she had been sick through the night v*ing)...HELLO...ah...what is wrong with people...why can't they stay home when they know they are sick! Anyway, it is now Sunday 18 December and I am hoping that I wont get it...fingers and toes are crossed!

Gee, people are unbelievable; I would never go to work if I were sick. People suck and so does this phobia.

Anyway, as it has been a few days now since your incident, I am sure you will be fine!

    Cheers,

    Daniela
