I get severe motionsickness whenever I am in/on anything that moves. Put me on a city bus for 5 minutes and I feel nauseous. I puked on the merry-go-round for god's sake!

I don't drive, so I can't tell you if being the driver helps - although my mom says it does- she gets just as sick as I do (and I can only recall one instance of her getting sick while driving). It makes sense, probably because you are so occupied with the actual driving that you don't have time to get sick.... I do know that if I sit in the front, or in the middle of the backseat (so I can have a clear view of the road in front of me) it does help a great deal. Also, sitting sideways, even if it is to talk to someone- BAD IDEA.

Whenever I know I am going to be in a car/bus/plane/train for an extended period of time, I always make sure to carry a snack (licorice or crackers- good for motionsickness), altoids ginger mints, and water or ginger ale. I also usually have my MP3 player, but it's just rude to listen to that with my headphones while going somewhere with my friends, lol.

If it happened only once, are you sure it was motionsickness, and not the result of something else? Also, was the person hitting the breaks really hard, and was the car stuffy? I find that it triggers it for me.

I have to drive everywhere.I have never actually gotten motion sickness but of course I am terrified b/c it could happen. It is almost impossible to get sick while driving. Besides your mind being busy, your brain doesn't get the confusion whether it is moving or not. My best advice is to drive yourself, (come up with a good reason why), I have plenty of them. I try to do what makes me the most comfortable.

I heard it was very unlikely that you would get motion sick from
driving too...like mentioned above, you are concentrating on the road
when you drive, and so are expecting the bumps and turns etc.
When I was yound and went on long journeys with mum,dad and two
sisters, me and my sisters always used to fight over who sat in the
middle....because if you were in the middle you had the best view
and felt much better. If you sit at the sides and look out the side
windows, your brain struggles to catch up with the images that your
eyes are constantly watching go past, and on top of that, you are not
looking at the road ahead and so are not prepared for twists and
    turns in the road.
If you are a passenger, never read while the car is in motion!!! Bad
move. That would make me feel really bad!
Also, I very rarely get carsick, but not so long back, I went on a
journey where I felt awful - it very possibly was not the car journey
that caused the feeling, possibly other factors, but it was just that
one time, and its been fine since - so don't worry, if normally you are
fine, then you should be fine in the future!

I've had motion sickness my whole life. It's usually caused by the inner ear. Here's a site which will give you some info about it.

I won't even travel an hour (as a passenger) without taking Dramamine hehe! It's a Godsend for me! I still refuse to take a bus though...i feel too crowded and out of control. Yet i'll go on a plane..go figure HAHA!

No, you really can't get motion sickness when you're the driver. I can drive for hours without a problem.

I get car sick all the time time too. I dont get car sick when im the driver though. Usually if Im a passenger...wether im sitting up front or in the back. But I never ride in the back ever! I usually take motion sickness pills before getting into the car. I use to ALWAYS have to drive no matter what! I even drove my freinds car if they picked me up! But Ive been doing pretty good with that the past few years and now sit in the passenger side! But the best thing to do is drive yourself!
