I was wondering if this phobia will just "go away" with time or what do we have to do to get rid of it? I'm 14 and I found out I had this phobia when i was 10,I want it to goaway (im sure we all do) because in the future i want to become a doctor and doctors have to treat SICKpeople something that I can not dodue this phobia, sometimes I dont go to school because of the fear. any help or recomendations you can get me are fine. Thank you!

P.S. English is not my first language sorry for mispelled words or sentences that dont make sense.

Hi Celtic!! =] Welcome! Yes, I'm almost completely sure that this phobia can be gone. One of our moderators on the site is cured, and she posted information in the treatments section if you want to know. I think that you can be a doctor when you grow up just get some help for this. Go for therapy. I've never had it but I'm sure it works, just takes time and money. =]

I sure as heck hope that it can be cured, reportedly Sage is cured from it and I hope to one day get to that point where it doesn't bother me that much or even at all. Welcome to the site!

    Hi Celtic

Firstly, you english is wonderful!! If you hadn't said that english wasn't your language i would never have known!! Yes, I believe this can be cured....i think the way of curing it is very different for everybody. I think you should go for therapy...speak to a doctor. I know I should but I don't have the guts...mad!! I know it's the right thing to do though!!

Also, this will definately not get in the way of becoming a doctor!!!! Don't even think like that, You have to be strong and know that you will become a doc if that is what you really want...!

hmmm....it depends on what you classify as 'cured'.

For some people, this means being able to vomit/be in the presence of vomitting without batting an eye. For others, it means managing it to the point that there still may be some degree of fear, but it is dealt with and does not play a major role in life decisions. I'm personally, just hoping for the latter. I just want to be able to feel the fear, but work though it damnit, and stop constantly thinking 'what if'?

That is what I am personally looking for in terms of a 'cure'

I think that is the most realistic cure anyone can aim for, at least in the first instance. As far as I can gather, everybody, even non-emets, does not like v*. Lets face it, it's not pleasant. It's just not as horrendous as we all believe it to be though, thats a big difference. There are many things that are not pleasant and we don't want to happen...we're not petrified of them all though!

I think if we could live life normally and not let it affect everyday, everything we would be less emet-like!! (If that makes sense!!) The emet is the anxiety and the fear, the interference with our social lives and comfort. A dislike of v* and a strong desire not to become ill and even to cry when u v* is normal! Normal is not obsessing over it though...the way we do!.....
