I have noticed that in many years I have had big difficulties seperating gastrointestinal feelings from nausea.

What is the difference? How do I tell if I have nausea and need to take
my anti-emetics or if it is just normal gastrointestinal feelings?

Nausea is when you feel like you are going to vomit...or like you want to vomit or that you could vomit....gastrointestinal feelings are like stomach growls...weird noises in your gut...or your bowels...stomach cramps...things like that......gurgles...just odd noises or feelings....but nausea you can't mistake for anything else...at least i can't...it's a horrid feeling like everything inside your stomach just wants to come out!! Hope this helps you.

To me, noises from my stomach makes me nervous because I associate them
with the 2002 November 28 11.45 PM event (15 minutes before the whole
vomiting scene started and lasted whole night).

As for the other things down there:

To me they all feels bad. When I have ever felt real nausea my brain
automatically rejects it from my mind. Instead all other
gastrointestinal feelings in my stomac are per definition warning signs
    that I might be sick.

I would agree, there's no mistaking TRUE nausea. I think my problem in the early days was that I couldn't differentiate between true nausea, and nausea-like symptoms from anxiety.

I had the same problem futuredr, it took along time for me to figure out the difference between actually being ill, and anxiety.

i wish i could distinguish real nausea!!! i feel like i can't tell the difference between n* and hunger ot between n* and pain or n* and cramps. everything feeld bad!! i constantly try and assure myself it's not true n* but one day it will be....

if i could tell when i really knew i was n* then i would at least know when to panic instead of panicing PERMANENTLY!!!!!!!!

Well, I actually do know how nausea feels like, just figured it out yesterday.

It is the feeling you have in your bottom before you are going to fart, just sitting in your throat.

However, whenever I try to ask myself "does it feels like this (then
imagine that same feeling I have in my bottom sitting in my throat)?" I
get that real nausea-feeling and then I can say "Yes" to that question,
    which makes me panic.

I don't think you were deliberately being amusing when you wrote
that last post dktekno, but I couldn't help but smile!

"the feeling you have in your bottom before you are going to fart,
    just sitting in your throat!"

Sometimes seeing the humourous side of things can be a great
    antidote to stress!!
    Laugh, quick, before you cry....

Here is what I wrote about nausea in the Vomiting FAQ:
    <BLOCKQUOTE dir=ltr style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px">

There is no single accepted definition of nausea in medicine. So each person needs to come up with his or her own. For our purposes, nausea is a feeling in the stomach rhythm that all is not well. Specifically, it is caused by contractions contrary to the normal pattern of contractions within the stomach or perhaps the complete lack of contractions. Ordinarily the immediate effect of nausea is to stop a person from eating or drinking further. If you're not sure you're nauseated -- and there are people like this, as we'll discuss later -- ask yourself "how about some [ice cream, BBQ ribs, orange juice, other favorite food] right now?" If the answer is "sure, why not!" then you are definitely not nauseated. Answering something else might suggest a degree of nausea. Nausea may also include pallor, sweating, excessive salivation, and increased respiration.

Since the onset of vomiting is often accompanied by fever, it may be comforting when you can take your temperature and find it normal.

Doug, that's exactly what I learned how to do! If I am not sure whetherI am hungry or not, I will think about certain foods, and if I want them, then I am pretty sure I am hungry.

Here is something else that works. If you are not sure if you are hungry or not, find some food that you like and smell it. If it smells good, you are hungry. If the smell makes whatever your stomach is feeling worse, then it is n*.
    I must face my fear.
I will allow it to pass over and through me.
When it has gone past I will turn my inner eye to see it\'s path.
Where it has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. -Dune

Doug, that's a great way to find out the difference. I always do that! Most of the time it's anxiety, and when I do this test, I can relax a little.

Can't help much on this one except to say that kids have a real time distinguishing between hunger and n***. That is why they can eat and then v***. They thought they were hungry when actually they were n***.
