hi guys - having a bit of a panic....3 of us work in my office. I only work one day a week, I came in this morning to find out that the guy I work with has been really ill..I got a blow by blow account of the violent v*...he didn't make it home before he got ill and he v* here. It last ed all weekend and he thought he was going to have to go to A&E and one point, he said it was horrendos...

I know it was a sv b/c his mum and sister had it too and they never ate together - I asked as many questions as I could without sounding insane!

Obviously I'm concerned!! Now, do I go home. I already said I have a headache (which I do) so could elaborate on that and leave. He got ill on Friday, was ill until Monday and this is Thursday, this is his 4th day since he stopped v* is he still contagious?

I will not use the toilet and I will not eat today and I will not touch my face until I can go home, wash all my clothes and shower. Could I still catch it. It sounds like such a terrible sv that I am not sure I can risk it. From his details, and he's not one to exaggerate....I don't think I could cope.

    Should I go home?

First of all DONT PANIC. I would go home, because that will make you feel better. PLus washing all the clothes, and yourself, and spraying anti germs stuff in the car too. I think you will be fine. And no you can't catch if from the air...you have to ingest the sv* to get it. My ex byofriends mom researches viruses and told me this. So don't worry. Take a chill pill, and do something nice for yourself. I know how it is, IT SUCKS. We are here if you need us. How are you now?
    I love Sam

well i'm still at work so far. i kind of feel now that i have stayed here this long i'll stay a bit longer, don't know if i'm risking it or not. i haven't eaten, just drunk some water and i wont eat til i go home. i haven't touched my mouth or anything, or my eyes or nose. i did scrath my face but I had to!!

thanku for your response, just to hear someone else is nice. i feel totally on edge and can't believe it's only lunch time!! I want to stick it out though as long as I can, might go home earlier than usual.

do you think i'm being silly and putting myself in 'danger' by staying here?

I would stay- running away doesn't solve the situation. You cant do that everytime you hear about someone around you who was sick a few days ago. Where do you draw the line?

If he's fine now and you're not going to do any covert making out with him in the copy room (lol) I'm sure you'll be fine. He was sick on Monday- today is Thursday- that's a decent sized gap there.

You ask if you're silly about putting yourself in 'danger' by staying there.....I kind of think it's a bit silly that you are contemplating going home when it's not even you that are sick- and the person who was sick isn't sick anymore.

This is not intended to offend

you are so right amber!! i just need to hear it!!

i have been sitting thinkingand rationalising!! i'm not ill so i wont go home and he is better. not saying i haven't been washing my hands and not getting too close but i have relaxed a bit. i'm not going to eat til i get home which is maybe pathetic but I am still here which i am pleased about- even if that sounds pathetic!!!

thankyou for your reply and it really does help to know that I am doing the right thing. i love your appraoch to the whole thing!!

it has been too long for you to catch it. he was really contagious over the weekend and you weren't near him. Wash your hands a lot and also remember, sometimes people who have no problem with V* enjoy making the stories real elaborate. It may not have been as bad as he said. I know that at times my husband will tell me about guys at work bragging about how much they V* and of course I panic and won't kiss my husbadn for days, but when the truth comes out as I will call their wives to make certain that they feel o.k., the truth is they aren't as sick as they tell the guys. I know how you feel about looking crazy asking all the questions, but I do it...I don't even care how nuts people think I am...I know I am and I don't care anymore!!!

WASH YOUR HANDS and you will be fine

hi guys!! i washed my hands - no fear there!! i did eat my sandwich though and i did stay all day.

nobody else from the office has caught it from him but he seems to think he caught it from his mum one week later than her....does that mean that he could be contagious for a week too..? i don't really know!!i just know that now I will be thinking about it over the weekend!! I don't feel n* at the minute but my stoamch does feel a bit weird. it's like it's knotted in a way. i'm probably just anxious and a bit tired but you know how it is....!

willow- first off, congrats on staying the day and even eating your lunch! Think of this next time you are stressed about something emet-related at work. Even though it may seem small, think of it as a mini-victory

Second, don't let this ruin your weekend! Keep busy, active, and do other things so as not to let your mind wander to the thought of catching something.
