Recently I have been soo hungry, and just eating everything around me!

I came home today and my mum said my dinner was ready straight away, because she was going out this evening. I wasn't toally hungry, because it was so early, but I ate most of the dinner anyway.

Afterwards, I felt kind of full, but this feeling passed after about an hour or so. So I stupidlyate three chocolates..and that's when I began to feel very full.. A few hours later, i.e. just now, I burped and some acid came up I thinkas I could tastethat sort of liquidy taste and my throat now burns a bit.

I know gastric reflux after overeating is quite common, but I'm worried I'm going to be sick, especially because I'm going to be going to bed in a bit over an hour- i.e. lying down.

I know babies get sick from gastric reflux, but I'm 14, do you still get sick from it when you're older? And is it a good idea to drink maybe some apple juice or something to lubricate my throat, or will it wake it worse?

Honey- I get that all the time...especially when I eat spicy or fried food. Although it's umcomfortable, that hasn't made me vomit. Do you have any chewable antacids (tums, rolaids, etc.) around? That usually solves the problem for me.

Ahh thanks

Sadly I don't, but hopefully it's one of those things which settles down by itself.

I don't know why I'm so hungry! It must be this time of the year of something

You're not expecting a bebe are you???? Only kidding. I ate like a
horse when I was expecting!
Acid indigestion is a pain - I get it alot too. Usually chewing a Rennie
helps me. Sitting upright helps, rather than lying down. It won't
make you v* though, don't worry.

It should settle by itself- although you'll probably be gassy all night long, haha.

If you have been more active lately, that could explain why you are so hungry. That, and you're 14 and still growing- you body needs a lot of calories in order to facilitate this growth, so you may as well give it what it's asking for Lol- you may be looking at a growth spurt in the next few months!

Actually, funny you mention that- my periods have been entirely crazy recently, i.e. I don't get one for three months or so. Then suddenly it comes and it only lasts a day :S

Very odd! (But no, I can't be pregnant, unless I'm the virgin Mary or something :P)

I might add an extra pillow tonight to make sure Im not lying down too flat.Edited by: s0ccer_princess

I don't want to jinx anything, but a growth spurt would be rather welcomed.

My mum's five foot roughly, my sister (17 years) is five foot two maybe? And I'm only about five foot three or four possibly.

It would be nice to gain a bit of height!

I have acid reflux disease and a Hiatal Hernia. I've never gotten sick from either of them, even when I'm off my medication for a short period of time. Like Pretty Polly said, sit up right instead of laying down and take some antacids. That helps me...also sometimes drinking milk helps me. I don't know why but it does. I don't mean to drink A LOT of milk I mean just take a small sip or two. That helps.

Congrats on the post count!

Thanks for the tips! I'll bear them in mind- I'm going to bed in a minute.

Ooh, that's an idea. Milk and other antacidshelp because they're alkalis, meaning they have a pH of 8+. When you mix an alkaline with acid, so the acid in your throat, it neutralises it (making it pH 7), which is the pH of water.

I must learn to take tablets.

Night all, thanks for the help!Edited by: s0ccer_princess

if you cant take tablets, try with a little bit of food. I always eat a biscuit first if its a big pill. I chew the food until i cant holf off swallowing anymore then pop the pill in my mouth and take a drink so i swallow it with the food.It makes it so much easier because you cannot feel the tablet at all.

I get heartburn alot and i find that sipping warm water helps me if i dont have any tablets.

My dad has a hiatus hernia too and he v* from it. He also has other problems where his stomach doesnt empty properlly sometimes so food sits in there for ages and heproduces way too much acid.He normally gets sick if he has had something spicy or fizzy then goes straight to sleep. Its probably his own fault he get sick from it though because he isnt taking his medication atm.

I'm sorry to hear that.

It must be quite hard for you too, I'd imagine?

I think I just have to stop being so greedy and start actually chewing my food.

You can absolutely V* from acid reflux (or gastroesophogeal reflux
disease)... but typically that happens to people who happen to have chronic
reflux. Some antacids should curb that...

Know what? I am 5 feet, 1 inch and my 2 sons are both over 6 feet! My 14-year old daughter is 5 feet six inches. Lately, she has been eating ALOT, and she is so skinny! You're probably going through your teenage growth spurt---hope that makes you feel a little better sweetie You are completely normal, doing whats normal for your age. As fas as the acid reflux thing, I know it's very uncomfortable--I get it alot to where the pain in my throat even makes me cough! I take ROLAIDS and they help most of the time. Please ask your parents before taking ANY meds. Another thing to try--maybe keep a diary of what you eat, and narrow the acid reflux feelings down to recently eaten foods that may have caused it and try to avoid them to see if that helps. Hope you feel better soon!!

Thanks!

I would like to grow a bit more, because all of my friends are like, 5"5, 6 and 7.

Yeah, certain foods are apparently worse for it. Or it might just be that I was plain greedy!

I hope you have figured it out. I have reflux all the time and I've never been sick from it, but it sure makes me afraid, that is an awful feeling.
