I think one of the worst parts about this emet is when I feel sort of sick, or my IBS is acting up some, but its not quite bad enoughto stay home and be considered sick sick. I went to work a few times this month with my intestines in knots, and I had to keep running to the br, and felt nauseas and just wanted to go home, but it wasn't like I was sick sick. I think its sometimes things I eat just don't go well with the IBS. Does anyone else get in this predicament? I only want to stay home when I'm really not feeling good, and not waste sick time. So far I haven't missed a day, but then I go and feel cruddy at work, but I do make it.

I guess what I wonder is when do you feel its time to stay home, or when is it time to go in to work anyways?

It really depends on you. I've come to work with IBS acting all crazy and then I've stayed home at times too. For me, it depends on how much sleep I got the night before. When I haven't gotten enough sleep, the IBS seems much worse than if it was a regular flare up, so it all depends on how physically tired I am.

I go to work when I feel N* because it's usually just nerves. I went to work on Monday feeling totally sick with my stomach in knots but then I drank a little water and I felt all better...well not ALL better but it really helped. I missed work today cause I slept through my alarm...luckily I have a few sick days that I can use. I was really tired last night I guess.

Yeah I guess it does all depend on how you are feeling personally. Its just hard because sometimes when I go and IBS is acting crazy, I wish I had stayed home, but I do make it through the shift.

I just find it hard to make a call when feeling crappy enough to want to stay home, but not sick enough to really stay home.

Well, I hate my job and my boss so i have no problem caling in sick, lol, but of course I do feel guilty if I do it too often. Usually my big indicator of whether I should go in or not is if I am feeling bad and take a Xanax, if that doesn't make me feel better I know I am in no condition to go to work. In most cases Xanax knocks out any icky feelings i have, and the few times it hasn't I know I was sick.

When i have colds I usually miss work on that one day when it is HORRIBLE - when your throat hurts, you are totally stuffed up and you didn't sleep all night.

I have ibs really bad too....and there are many many many days that i work sick.....and am in the br like all day in and out all the time...but all my 4 co workers know about it so they are not surprised....i even work through the nausea....it's only if i feel like i have a virus that i will stay home......and that happens quite a bit....but sometimes even then i will go on and work just b/c we don't have anyone to replace us if we are out....which sucks really bad....but anyway just to answer your ? If i really feel ill...then i will stay home no matter what. Gosh I hate IBS!!!!! And EMET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've pretty much had to work through every imaginable type of illness - strep, flu, virus, cold, bronchitis- you name it, I've had it. The thing is, Im a student, so when I am working it's either on contract with the government, or part-time- thus, no paid sick leave. I literally can't afford to stay home when sick.

I usually make sure I have lozenges, tea, tums, and pepto on hand in order to deal with anything that might arise. The worst- for me- was working through a really high fever (102.5- didnt know it was that high until I got home). The words on the computer screen kept moving around and around and around....

    Feel betta!

    Hey Kate,

I agree the 2 do suck really bad! I think that the other day my co-workers must have been wondering what my problem was why I was going to the br somuch, but well I try to be very discrete about it so I don't think they noticed too much. I haven't told anyone at work about it just because usually I am fine, and usually its not a problem, but occassionally things act up. Sometimes I'll say that I'm not feeling good, hence the frequent br trips, but usuallyI don't say anything.
