Hi Everyone!

I just thought i'd pass this link to you. You can get a free digital camera if you go to this site, sign up for one free offer, then get ten of your friends to sign up for an offer as well. Most of the offers are free, and you can always cancel them! I signed up for a credit card that I plan on cutting up once i get it, but it's worth it for a free camera. So visit this link, sign up, and get your free camera!!

    I think it's a scam because...

These things were going around a bunch of forums for a while for
different things. Ipods and such and lots of people did not get what
was promised even after submitting credit card information.

It's possibly what is known as negative option marketing where they
send you something for free but continue to send you a bunch of other
crap you don't want and then bill you for it.

Be very careful with those things as there's no such thing as a free lunch.

My friend at college did this and he DID get an iPod, seriously, i'm not lying. That is why i'm doing this now. They don't ask you for your credit card info or anything! Just your e-mail address, that's it. The people who sponser the site are legitimate sponsers (citibank, maxxim magazine, realarcade, etc), they just want people to sign up with them, so they figure they'll give out a few cameras to try and get more people to spend money on them, but if you handle it right (remember to cancel any 'free' trials you sign up for, cut up any credit cards you sign up for), then you'll be fine, AND get a free camera. but, if you are uncomfortable doing it, then don't. I know for a fact its legit.

Ummm.. they must ask for some personal info, if you got a credit card you had to give your social security # right? There is nothing ever given out for free without a catch, and with all the scams out there, you really have to be careful. I wouldn't apply for a credit card online EVER, I would contact the company directly to sign up for one. I hope you do get your free camera.

No no no, you see, the site is sponsered by citibank, and there is a link you click on that takes you to citibank's SECURE site to apply for a card. I mean, i have a credit card that i applied for online (american express), and everything went smoothly, no identity theft occurred, because theyare secured through verisign. so this was like the same thing, but it was a citibank mastercard. I realize that the camera isn't free...i had to sign up for a credit card, but since i do all of my banking online, and all of my shopping online, i'm not nervous about doing it, and i know this site is legitimate, so i'm gonna give it a try. so don't worry about me, i'm going for it, but if anyone is uncomfortable in the least, i say don't do it. it's not worth being nervous. i'll keep you updated as to whether i get one or not though

I just went to the site, and clicked on the citi link like you said, there was a button there that said "click here if you already have an account", so I did. It than brought up this other screen that wanted all your secure info, that citibank said "they would never ask you for" like the 3 digits on the security panel on the back of your card. THEY ALREADY HAVE THIS INFO, THEY WOULDN'T NEED IT AGAIN!! THIS IS A SCAM!!!!!

I actually know someone who signed up for a bunch of things online and did get a free iPod. She cancled all of the deals when she got the iPod and everything was fine. Sometimes they do try to trick you but this girl got her iPod so I guess it's not all a scam.

you have a citibank card? did they just ask you for the 3 digits on the back of your card? I'm confused. well, i'm not nervous, i think they are trying to verify information before they let you view your credit card information. whenever i log into my american express account, they ask me to verify information they already have. well, don't do it, don't sign up for anything. i'm not worried, like i said. i've already signed up, no trouble so far, they're sending me my card. have you ever done online credit card management/banking before? Because they will ask you to verify your card number and the 3 digits on the back if you've never logged on before.

When I do banking, I've never been asked for those 3 numbers, ever. In fact, the one time I was stupid to give those numbers away, it was with an email scam that looked like it came from my bank. When I called to cancel the card, I told them about the 3 numbers and they said they would never ask that, they have that all on file. And yes, I have a citibank card. When you go to that site, there is a link, saying, to save time, here is a short cut for all people who have a card already with them. I'm sorry that I'm being so cautious with this, but I made a stupid error and I would hate to see someone else get scammed like I did. You could also call up citibank and ask them directly if they are affiliated with this website that is giving away the cameras.

babygap, i just looked at that link info - they need that info to verify that you are in fact a citibank credit card holder, because you have never logged into the site before. i'm assuming you dont' have a citibank credit card already, so in order to get one, you dont click on "click here if you already have an account," you click on the apply for a card section. then they will ask you for your social security, address, etc., to verify that you are a real person who has good credit and then they can send you a credit card.

No, I do have a credit card with them already, and if it was legitimate, it would take you directly to the citibank website, where you log into check your balance, and pay your bills. I hope this isn't a scam, for your sake, but what really urks me, is you would post this on this site to get your 10 "suckers" to use your id number as a referral so you might get your camera. It just seems fishy, that yes, they would in fact have to verify you have an account, but, the link doesn't take you to their own website. And just because it has the verisign symbol, you can add that to any website, that doesn't make them actually citibank. That's what I'm trying to explain to you. I was scammed through an email, that was "sent from my bank." When I read the email, it was a direct copy of what the homepage looked like. When I clicked on the links provided in the email to "verify" my info, it took me to a site that looked very similar to my website. It then asked for my ss#, account#, 3 digit #, etc. When I spoke to the bank, they said that "no representative would ever ask for that info because they already have it." To verify my account, they ask for my address, mother's maiden name, date of birth, stuff that isn't on the card already.

Look, I also heard about some people getting the IPOD but like I said,
nothing is truly free. Other's did not get it. And you have to ask
yourself why it is that an organization would be offering free gadgets?
Is it just to show their appreciation for your existance or to thank
you for reading all the ads and offers? Is your time really that
valuable? Time to come down out of the clouds folks. Business doesn't
    work that way.

And lemme tell you... CitiBank is a horrible company to do business
with. Having their name on something would make me stay far away from
    it.

So I'll say it again, be careful because there's no free lunch.

If someone wants to send you a free gadget fine... but why do they need
your personal information such as your SSN or CC number? R E D FLAG!

ouch.. a wall. well, look, i'm not telling you to do this. this is my personal choice, yes you could say it's risky. now you've let people know what you think, and they can make a conscious decision as to whether they trust the site or not. if iget screwed, that's my problem. that's all i have to say.

    Hey-

Im not going to comment on whether or not this is a scam- all I know is that there are a lot of them going around, and I would prefer to be safe, even if it means buying my own digital camera, lol.

Melody- although I'm sure you had no ill intent, I think it's a bit in bad taste to post this link here with your r#, basically meaning that if people from this board sign up (who dont even know you I am assuming)- you have the possibility of getting a free camera. I think this type of stuff should be left to personal emails to people on your contact list....as opposed to posting it to this board in order to benefit.

you're right amber...i guess i was selfish, as much as it hurts for me to say it (it doesn't necessarily feel good admitting you're wrong). so i want to apologize. is there a way i could retract that post?

babygap, liriodendron, i'm sorry. this site is supposed to be used to unite people who already have enough stress/anxiety in their life. please accept my apology, everyone.

Oh bless, no-ones mad at you. We all have the right to freedom of
speech. Like you said, everyone can make up their own mind
whether or not they want to partake in this. But it never hurts to be
    over cautious, does it?

I have just one comment and one warning:

The comment is you are free to choose to do this if you want. No one else should make your decisions for you.

The warning is TANSTAAFL. That stands for "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch."

Oh, and one more comment. I agree. No one is mad at you! Edited by: mistyeyes

Thanks...after this whole thing, i'm a little nervous to post about my emet because i'm afraid people don't like me now. i just wish i could take it all back.

but thanks for not being mad...i don't think people should go to the site anyways. it really isn't the smartest idea.

at least this whole thing has kept me from thinking about v* for a while.

For the record, I don't think what melody did was bad and I don't think
Melody is unwise for believing the offer. Those offers are very, very tempting and these things
were alllll over the forums back about a year ago. I can't believe
    they're still doing this stuff.

I just want to look out for Melody and my fellow emetophobes.

Melody please don't start thinking people don't like you and that you can't post about your emet now, that's just not true. So please DON'T feel bad, ok?

I don't know whether this website will help to tell you whether this is a scam or not (it may well be legit as you say - but better to be safe than sorry!):

Melody, i'm not upset with you, I just didn't want you or anyone else to get scammed. Please, continue to post about your EMET, that's why we are all here. This is a great place to get support when you need it, and we are all bonded in a way because of it. I am just concerned for everyone's financial well being, there was an article yesterday on YAHOO talking about how many people get scamming or phishing emails every day that want personal info. Just be weary, and yes, nothing in this world is FREE without some sort of catch. When I looked at that credit card application/site yesterday, in order to qualify for the free camera, you either had to make a purchase, cash advance or balance transfer, which means, that you couldn't just cut the card up when you rec'd it. Just be careful!!

Thanks babygap. You're right. I did some research, and even though i found that it wasn't an identity theft scam, they are still making money off of suckers like me.

I'm glad to know i have a group of people who care about me (emotionally and financially!).

I'll continue posting about my emet and thanks for being so supportive!

Melody, you are NOT a sucker!

You did the research, and found out the truth.

In my humble opinion, that makes you intelligent, as you were willing to question what the deal really was.
