How many of you girls are on it? Does it help with cramps/acne ect? Have you gotten pregnant whilst on the pill? Which pill are you on? And have you ever been 'late' whilst on the pill?

I have been on the pill, the patch and I am currently using the Nuva-ring. Of all of them I love the ring the best. The pill made me moody and the patch progressively made me more nauseous. I know the ring might be something hard to get used to but I love it. No side effect, no pill to remember everyday and if it bothers u during sex, you can take it out and leave it out for up to 3 hours. I have accidently forgotten to put it back in and went WAY longer without it in and I have never been pregnant... never on any of the other methods as well... Are you looking for a new B/C?

Everything happens for a reason
I was on Orthotricylene (not sure if I spelled that right) for 7 or 8 years. I think it did help my acne a little, I never got pregnant on it, and I was never late while I was on it. I do know someone who did get pregnant on it though. You have to be careful not to miss any days and try to take them around the same time everyday.
The thing I was happy about was that I had absolutely no problems getting pregnant after I got off the pill when I was ready.
I was on Alesse for the past year- it's pretty much the lowest dosage you can get in a birth control pill. It did cut down on my cramps and bloating (which used to be really REALLY bad)- and made my period almost non-existant (well- when you're on the pill it's not really a period anyway- its withdrawal bleeding).
I do know people who have been on the pill and gotten pregnant- but it was due to the fact that they didnt take it at the same time everyday, which is essential.
One thing I have strong STRONG feelings about is the depo injection. Not only has it been correlated to increased depression and lower sex drive- but once you take it, you can't get it out of your system until it runs its course. If you're on a pill and it doesnt agree with you, you can stop taking it, or ask for another dosage. When you get an injection, you're stuck with it for a few months- and there is no way of telling if it is effective (unless you end up pregnant). I have also had friend who ended up bedridden due to it......and do you know that the same type of thing is given to sex offenders to reduce their sex drive?

I'm on alesse right now. Not sure if I'm going to change my form of BC just yet. Just getting some opinions.
Another question (I feel like an idiot!) Can you still have your period but be pregnant?
I ask because last month I was spotting a bit before my period was supposed to come...my doctor said it was likely because I need a higer dose of BC pill.
.I just want to feel safe in my own skin. I just want to be happy again. I just want to feel deep in my own world. But I’m so lonely I don’t even want to be with myself. <3
when you are on the pill- what you get isn't really a period per se....its withdrawal bleeding from the hormones you are receiving (or not receiving). So, if you are taking the pill and are bleeding when you are not taking (or taking the placebo)- there is still a *slight* possibility that you may be pregnant.
That, and even if you arent on the pill and getting a period regularly- there is also a possibility that you are with bebe- which is why some women dont know they are until they are far along.
About Alesse- I have also just switched to something new due to the same reason why you are thinking of switching- breakthrough bleeding/spotting. I have just switched to something with higher levels of progesterone (I cant remember the pills name though, and its at my plave so I cant check- at the bf's), which should stop that.

Well...that's what I'm scared about. That I could be pregnant and not even know it because I have my 'period'.

I am on Triphasil. It definitely helps with cramps and making my period much lighter. I don't think it really helps with acne, though. I have never gotten pregnant on the pill and have never been late with my period. The only problem I had was when I first started on them, I got slight cramping, spotting, and a yeast infection. All of that went away after the first month.
I must face my fear.
I will allow it to pass over and through me.
When it has gone past I will turn my inner eye to see it\'s path.

Honestly- if you are on the pill and using a condom, the odds of that are slim to nil. If this is really a big concern, begin taking a monthly pregnancy test. Or just not have sex.
Here's the deal- sex is great and wonderful- but there is always a risk involved, whether that risk be large or small depending on the precautions you take. You can either decide that the pleasure outweighs the worry about the risk- Or decide that you worry about getting pregnant is significant enough to not have sex. LOL- pregnancy is 100% preventable.
The way I see it, if someone is having sex they should be prepared to deal with the potential consequences- whether that be having a child, putting it up for adoption or having an abortion- or even dealing with an STD. If you can't be prepared to deal with that, then maybe you should obstain until you are.

Oh, and I'm just starting Marvelon- apparently this is one step up from Alesse in terms of progesterone levels. Am starting this sunday, so let's see how my body deals with it.

I've tried a few different methods myself. My faveorite was the nuva ring b/c it is the least maintainence w/ the least side effects. I used it for like a year, but it began to become painful... and I got some *eh hem* "infections" .. even though I would take it out and rinse it during showers to keep it clean.
Either way, I go in for a preg' test today... and then tomorrow to get the paragard implanted.. (yikes..)
but I HAVE HEARD WONDERS ABOUT YASMIN! I guess it has virtually no side effects, and a lot of benefits.
http://www.yasmin.com to get all the facts.

Im not on birth control...but want to be...im just afriad that it will make me nauseas. thats the main reason im afraid to take it. Does anyone expirience nausea from birth control? Anyone know of any brands that dont make you nauseas??

I have been on a few different kinds of the pil for 13 years. Did I get pregnant on it? NO WAY! I went off them in June and I still am having problems getting a normal period. It was regular for a few months and now I am sitting here waiting on my 42nd day (my second cycle in a row without ovulating!)! It is quite heart breaking considering my husband and I are trying to have a baby.
By the way, I was NEVER nauseous in all of that time.

I've been on the pill for almost 10 years, and have never gotten n* from it. I always take it after I eat dinner so I think that has helped prevent it from happening. I've been on 2 different brands, i was on orthotrycyclen, but after a year, it made me crazy with a massive hormone imbalance. I then started Demulen, which has agreed with me perfectly.

to be honest, it doesnt matter who else has had side effects, gotten pregnant, etc, because that will no way determine how YOUR body reacts to it.
some pills are going to have an icreased risk of side effects because of the levels of hormones in them, and even then, the odds that you'll feel sick are low.
I think that people in general who are more sensitive to hormones, ie, get bad PMS, had mornign sickness or a family history of it, are more likely to have these effects.
you really should talk to your doctor and he/she can help you decide which is the bestt option for you.
just for the record, Ive been on about 5 different kinds of pills, and never once felt sick because of them. And Ive never been pregnant.Edited by: Babydoll

Hey Jill-
it's basically used as a method of chemical castration- making it difficult to impossible for them to get an erection (the progesterone does reduce testosterone levels). However, it does not really affect whether or not a sex offender will re-offend, as there is no evidence that sex offenders have higher levels of testosterone than the average male, or a heightened sex drive (in fact, many have LOWER sex drives). If they are still in the mentality that they want to re-offend, they will, although it may take a different form.
The problem is that it does not address the social factors which make sex offences prevalent in our society...but that's another rant
In essence- yes, it's used as a treatment for sex offenders- but the mentality behind it and it's effectiveness is in question.
How are you enjoying psychology? I did a minor in undergrad. What field are you hoping to go into? Counselling, psychiatry, etc?

I'm on Seasonale right now, and LOVE it! I only get a period once every three months, the only thing is it's expensive and my insurance doesn't cover it. It's worth it to me tho. I've been on every type of birth control there is and they all make me bleed mid cycle, so far I'm doing ok on Seasonale. Nuva ring was good too, but it was cumbersome and I was worried it would fall out into the toilet!!!!! Okay... TMI.

2jo2-- I worry about that all the time! Especially with #2..hahahaaa Never once has mine fallen out and I have beren on it for a year! Do you get the same symptoms of PMS during the months that you don't get your period?
