Hi Guys,

Here's a pretty interesting story ~~ I am a freelance/contrart paralegal, and I started doing work for this place here in Phoenix. At first I thought they were a law firm by the way the name sounded. Well I was wrong. They needed a paralegal to handle all doc's, etc. Well, what they do is prepare divorces, bankruptcy's, etc. for people. You need to be certified to do this, and neither the company itself nor any of its handful of employees are certified. This is what they call "engaging in the unauthorized practice of law". Well, I had to work in the office for a week to get familiar with their cases, then I would be taking files to complete at my home office. I had a feeling from the beginning that something was "off". I discussed my suspicions to my friend who's an attorney, and he basically made me feel like I was some overreacting disillusioned broad (sorry), so fine, I did my own investigating, and found out that the house the owner of this co. lives in is owned by his wife and her ex-hubby! Then, I found out that this guy took his wifes last name. He said he was an attorney in Texas, but I called the State Bar of Texas--they've never heard of him! Ok, so this is getting interesting, so I dig deeper. I got some "evidence" together, and reported him to the State Bar of AZ for UPL (Unauthorized Practice of Law), THEN found out that 13 other people (clients) turned him in as well, and there was an open investigation on him and the company. He had been telling all kinds of people that he was an attorney, and he was taking very large retainer fees and billable hourly fees from people! I told my attorney friend this, and he still looked at me like I had 3 heads. Well, the lady at the State Bar/AZ told me that I should terminate my contract with this co., that it will be shut down soon, and I better get out now while I'm a "complaintant", rather than an "accomplice", which is what all of the employees are at this point, because they all know this co. is fraudulent but continue to perform work there. Well I quit, and after I quit I found out that the owner of this co. is a REPEAT CONVICTED FELON, who just got out of prison in Feb. 2005!! He had been in prison twice before for FRAUDULENT SCHEMES, as well as being an absconder and possession of narcotics. A month after being released in Feb., he started this fraud business--how the hell can this happen?? Well, this is my kind of luck ya know. BUT, the good thing is, I am the "star witness" in this, so I will prob be testifying in court, being that I have witnessed alot of bad stuff there in the office, which will give me some experience in the courtroom! WOW, huh? I think I might like telling my attorney friend "I told you!!" HA! Anyways, I thought this would be interesting for you guys to read, and it's just proof that stuff like this really does happen! Keep your hands washed and your eyes open........

That's very interesting and exciting stuff. Very Pelican Briefish.

My parents live in a condo in FL and they were not friends per se but
friendly with one of the other couples in their building. Well one day
they turn on the news/TV and this guy (the neighbor) being shown for practicing
some kind of medicine wihtout being licensed or even have any
education. I can't remember if it was dentistry or what but he was
doing surgery. They locked him up and threw away the key. Seized
everything he had.... which was a lot.

I just heard a story about my sister's co worker's father. Apparently he was practicing medicine and he's not a real doctor. That's SO SCARY. I mean imagine going to a doctor and then finding out that he's not even liscenced to practice MEDICINE. Your situation sounds bad but at least you got out of it before you could be charged with anything!

WOW--this is more common than I thought!! I guess we need to be alert to anything strange when we deal with professionals, sad as that is.
