Please, does anyone know anything about gallstones or gallbladder disease.

My mother was got sick Tuesday night, and since then she has not been able to eat. She went to the doctor this morning and he sent her right to the hospital. He believed it was a gallbladder problem.

Does anybody know anything about this? How bad are gallbladder problems? Will it make her v* alot? Is it a serious condition? I am so scared, partly because I am afraid of her getting sick near me, partly for her.

Please, anyone that knows about this, please let me know.
    I must face my fear.

When it has gone past I will turn my inner eye to see it\'s path.

I had my gallbladder out back in 1991. If she just has stones in it she probably will just have it removed...i had 13 stones in all...some were blocking my bile duct and some were just in my bladder. I never v from it...all though they told me to expect it. But i never did...i horrible horrible pain from it....but never sick. So, she may or may not...i don't really know....Usually they will go ahead and schedule surgery to remove it if it's diseased or if you have stones. I think that she will be fine once she has it removed...i hope that everything goes well for you and your mom...keep us posted.

    Thank you!

Actually, I just found out (because my dad just walked in the door), that she is being scheduled for emergency gallbladder surgery. I assume that means it will be removed.

I do hope that she will be much better afterwards.

Thanks for your support. I appreciate it.

    Thank you!

It must be bad, because the doctor said her gall bladder is bleeding and HAS to be removed.

It's odd, because she has never had an attack like this before, although she said that she has had gall stones in the past. I never remember her having them!

Misty.....that is good that they are going ahead and removing...i never experienced any bleeding i don't think...just the stones...but i guess her having stones before may have had an effect on the bleeding, i don't know...but she will be much better once it's removed....I wish you and your mom the best...keep us posted on how she is after the surgery...hang in there...

Good to hear she's having it taken out, misty! My Dad recently was in hospitalto have his gallbladder removed, in emergency surgery, just like your mum- he had 5 gallstones, I think, and he was in so much pain. Never v*d though, it just gave him hell for a few weeks!

You can have them for ages, and not have them cause you any trouble, but if they block your bile duct (I think that's the right term?), they can be really painful. She'll be fine! Let us know how it all goes!Edited by: angel13

I had a friend who had serious gallbladder issues! She would get an attack and be in os much pain, and would V* ALOT. Because of her age (or stupidity of the dr) they never tested her gall bladder. Eventually, it was so bad, she was actually tested and went in from emergency surgery right away! She's all good now...even had a baby not too long after!

I had my gall bladder out in 1998. I have never in my life felt so much pain during the attacks and I lost 25 lbs. in 6 weeks! I never vomited once though, just pain. My Mom and sister both had milder attacks and had vomiting and diarrhea.

The only way to "cure" this disease is to remove the gall bladder. She will feel so much better! the surgery is nothing, a day surgery. I went back to school (I was in my 2rd year university and 21 years old) in 1 week! It is really incredible. I had laproscopic surgery which involves 3 1/2 in. incisions and a 1 in. incision over your belly button. A far cry from the 10 in. incision my Mom had 30 years ago! Lucky me, genes suck! All the women in my immediate family have had gall bladder disease.

    She will be just fine

Thanks for all the support, everyone!

My mother's surgery went really well, although the doctor's did say it was the worst case they had ever seen. Her gall bladder was about to burst.

She has to stay in the hospital now for at least a few more days. I will keep everyone posted on how she is doing.

Again, thanks for all your replies. It's always a great comfort getting support from people that I know understand my fears.
