Just wondered how those with IBS cope with emets as I have been diagnoised with IBS and n* is a common symptom I get. How have you guys got better from IBS? As the season of many sv's are about I panick myself which results in anxiety making the IBS worse. Does anyone else get this?

I so feel your pain...i have had ibs for over 20 yrs......i know what you are going through. As far as coping...well...you just do what you have to do....there are many meds out there for it...but i have found that Digestive Advantage IBS works best for me.....I used to be on Lotronex but they took it off the market....so anyway...yes during the winter i feel the effects of emet getting worse along with my ibs. I think it's the extra worry of sv's like you said. And of course with ibs i always have d anyway so i am always thinking and wondering if it's the start of a sv......

I pray alot. And pray and pray and pray....I am going to the gastro doc on the 13th...and hopefully maybe there is something else they can do for me.....i am going to try to have the endoscopy and colonoscopy done to test for any other things that may be wrong or causing my symptoms.....i am praying they will find something...b/c to not know there is really something physically wrong is worse to me....

I have been to a consultant and he has refered me to a dietiran so I can try excluding foods to find triggers. I have had the disorder for about 7 years but has recently got worse. I think ive become more anxious. Good to know you get the same with changing seasons as chances of sv's increase.

Stress makes IBS much worse for me. When i'm not under that much stress, the only foods I have to avoid are cheese (no more pizza), oat (no more cheerios) and whole grain/wheat breads. I've had this for about 4 years now and that was the last time I had a cheeseburger. As long as I avoid those foods, i'm usually not that bothered by it.

And also I have begun to take a anti-anxiety med call xanax...helps so much....not neccessairly with the ibs...but just with all the anxieties of winter...and just stress. I love it and it's not with alot of side effects...it may make you alittle tired...but i like to take them at night before going to bed...helps me be able to go to sleep without laying there worrying about being sick or anything...and sometimes during the day i end up having to take one...i am on a very low dosage...so i function normally at work or whatever...i might be a good idea to ask your doc about a anti-anxiety med for you.....

Sometimes excluding foods help...sometimes it doesn't...i hope it does for you...but for me...i have found that what effects me badly one time...won't do it the next time...so good luck with that.

the problem for me is that it has only recently been diagnoised. All i know that makes it worse is stress and fatty foods which is what makes it worse as I dont know what to avoid!

It's kind of trial and error. If you eat something that doesn't agree with you, than you know to avoid it. It also helps if you can get on a medication to help control the IBS. I started with it and it helped the nausea.

Babygap....what meds are you on? I have severe nausea and need help with that...I take ginger root capsules...and they seem to help somewhat. But would like to know what you take.

the doctor started me on nexium, the little purple pill to help reduce the amount of stomach acid. Than he gave me some sort of intestinal relaxer, which slowed down the amount of times i had to go to the bathroom. It wasn't like imodium, it just helped relax so that the pain would subside a bit. The nexium also helped out alot with the nausea.

That's interesting....well maybe my doc will give some to me. I just wish this junk would go away. I am so tired of it. It just seem to never let up....well i take that back. I do have some periods when everything is normal...but with all the stress i have in my life...it's no wonder i'm sick all the time!!!!!

I understand. I find the best food for me when I am stressed is plain pasta, no sauce, just a sprinkle of parsley and pepper and a dash of extra light olive oil. It always seems to agree with me.

ok IBS is a disorder of the bowels/digestive system...you cannot eat certain things...or anything might bother you. You can either have diarreaha or constipation or both...it is horrible....with me i have explosive diarreaha. It can hit you anytime...anywhere...you always have to know where the bathroom is. Food just goes right through you...and you can also have very bad cramps to go with it. I used to have cramps very bad...but now it just hits me and that's it i have to run to the bathroom......you can also have nausea with ibs. If you think you may have it...then you should probably make an appt. with a gastro doc....they will do certain tests to rule out anything that might be worse...that's what i am doing on the 13th of this month. Most of the time they can tell just by you listing your symptoms but they will probably want to test your colon and see if you have any thing else going on. Best of luck to you and also if you go to www.ibshope.com you will lots of info on IBS.

Ibs can also be a nearological disorder. It has been proven that many people with ibs have chemical imbalances in thier brain which causes the nerves going to your gi tract to go a bit crazy at times, just as it does with anxiety and depression which can cause nasty muscle spasms, or no smooth muscle activity at all.In many cases, ibs is treated with tricyclics, i was given amitriptylene for mine which we all know is an antidepressent/anti anxiety med.

IBS can also be aggravated by anxiety, it really is horrible to live with.

At the moment i take a med called colofac which is an antispamodic which works only on the smooth muscle of the gut. I take it about 20 mins before a meal to prevent or reduce the nasty muscle spasms. I dont take it everyday, mainly just on a bad day or if i go out to eat. My ibs isnt really affected by what i eat. I can eat spicy indian food or plain dry crackers and i will still get the same result! i alternate between constipation and d*,my body really does not know if its coming or going most of the time!

Thanks for answering my question. Im not sure if I have ibs. But it seems alot of ties after I eat something..shortly after I get bad diareah. And cramping..but never constipation. Do you have to also have constipation with ibs? or can it just be diareah? Ill have to check out that site and get myself to a doctor. Thanks

hi thanks for all your replys. It seems a lot of us suffer from it and the winter months with fears of sv's dont help! Mandi yes you can have just d* and its a lot easier to treat so go and see a doctor!
