    I doubt it.

I have been around many sick cats, and a few dogs, and never gotten anything.
    I must face my fear.
I will allow it to pass over and through me.
When it has gone past I will turn my inner eye to see it\'s path.
Where it has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. -Dune

My dog has v'd around me numerous times (she only v*s when Mommy is home and Daddy is gone, it seems) and I've never gotten anything, except anxiety.

Hiya, im doing a bit of readin about this at the moment, and i hate to say it, but theres lots of things that can be passed from animals to us, however it does seem to be rather hard to catch themand not many are disease of the gi tract. Heres what iv found: (my source is the health protection agency in the uk)

many animals, mainly cattle and farm animals, but also some pets can carry E Coli in their guts, just like we carry it also. I dont think this will be at risk of catching this unless you ingest fecal material from an infected animal. This is no problem, we keep our hands washed anyway.

Giardia is also carried by vertebrates and invertebrates in thier intestinal tract and causes d* in humans, iv found no evidence to suggest it causes v*. IT is transfered bydirect contact, ingesting fecal material, or water that is contaminated with fecal material from infected animals. Once again, hand washing can prevent this so nothing new for us to worry about.

Salmonella is carried by poultry, cattle, sheep and pigs. It infects humans when fecal material from an infected animal is ingested, or by eating undercooked meat. Once again this is nothing new to us, we all make sure our food is cooked properly and we wash our hands regulary.

There are many more, but i just wanted to list a few to state that it is possible to get ill from your pet, but it is extremely rare and in most cases you would have to ingest fecal material. I really would not worry about it, i have a dog, cat, hamsters and koi and have never got sick from them. I do cuddle and kiss my pets (not thre fish obviously :P) alot and never got sick. I thnk if we keep up our good hygiene we will be just fine
