So it is truely that time of the year again. I began feeling sick last saturday night after the Halloween party, my throat began to swell up and was KILLING ME... but it mellowed out by Sunday. Sunday, I began to develope a slight cough to accompany my throat and a runny nose. That was fine, nothing an OTC medication couldn't clear up. However, it's been almost a week and my slight cough has turned into (GRAPHIC)

a musus fest inside my chest and throat, and my throat is so swollen I can feel my uvula when I breath. It hurts to swollow and breath (at night when I'm in bed).. my nose is wicked sore from all the tissues that I've used. And beginning to feel really run down. It's really starting to get to me. At firstI didn't mind, but it's one of those things that after time really begins to weigh on your nerves.

I mean, I know it could be worse... at least I'm not n* or s*, but this still stinks

Anyone else gotten any nasty colds? I've considered trying tamiflu, but don't know how beneficial that would be for me. Or if it would interfere w/ my meds.

    just wonderin'

i think you have just got to sit it out, a cold is a virus, so you cant really help it with medication, although it may make you feel better. on the topic, i have the beginings of a cold *groan* my friend just had flu, so i hope it isn't that, i have exams next week!! hope u feel better soon, jen xxx

The cold and the flu are two different things.

Although over the counter stuff to relieve symptoms mught have you believe otherwise.

Glad to hear it isn't more serious. (V*)

Yeah, cold/flu season is here in full force. True, a cold and a flu are totally different things, but on an emet point of view the "flu" means V*. Actually not true, and it sounds as though you have a flu. Colds are a pain in the butt, but a flu can lay you on your butt! Try to stay warm, and maybe get some steam going in the house (I boil pots of water with Vicks in them). Take a decongestant and go to sleep. This too shall pass.

Luckily, it's not v*ing though....hilarious how we (emets) would rather get really horrible colds that last two weeks than get a sv that lasts 24 hours! Weird.

Ugh... I totally feel ya. Mine started on October 21st and well... yeah it's still not completely over. I started out the same as you with a horrid sore throat that lasted for about three days and then the sore throat was gone and the runny nose took it's place (the worst part is not being able to breathe through your nose and it always seems the very second you unclog the one side, the other side decides it needs a try! BLEH!!) After about 5 days of the runny nose it turned into the cough, mucus thing and that's what it's been since. The worst part was my 23rdbirthday was the 27th and I totally missed out on anything fun as I was stuck in bed:O(

I finally went to the doctor yesterday and I have bronchitis so the antibiotics should help really soon. The worst of it at this point is the horrible nighttime coughing and the icky feelingfrom having all that drainage in my stomach.

Just be sure to drink PLENTY of fluids (water and juices are best) and eat what you can. I made the mistake of eating nothing but carbs (soup, peanut butter sandwhiches, and ramen noodles) for almost a week until I felt really horrible. My body literally wouldn't let me eat crackers that's how bad I felt and I couldn't understand why... but I was CRAVING tomatos and celery. Finally I realized that it was just my body's way of saying "For gosh sakes woman feed me something else!!!!" So try to eat a variety of healthy things to keep your strength.

    Mostly... just feel better!

    wink

Giving up doesn\'t always mean that we are weak. Sometimes it just means that we are strong enough to let go.

My fiance and I were sick with a nasty cold a few weeks ago. The sore throat, coughing, stuffy nose...everything else. His got so bad that it turned into Bronchitus..Which was nitemare! He was coughing in bed all night for 2 weeks. I couldnt even sleep

Luckily...I only had the slight cold and didnt catch his bronchitus. I always say to myself...I would much rather have a cold than to feel N* or V*!

So I hope you start feeling better soon Hang inthere!

i had a bad flu (not the v* kind) a couple weeks ago, i could barely get out of bed, i could hardly eat,had a terrible sore throat, and because i had nothing in my stomach,i took a ibuprofen which i heard will make u n* ifyou take it on an empty stomach,i dry heaved a bit, but never actually v* it was horrible!..i had the shakes, muchle aches, terrible headache..i had pretty much everything in the books!..i hope i never get that again cuz that was helll!

as for your sore nose from the tissues, put a little vaseline on your lower lip by your nose, it helps a bit..and get lots of fluids and rest it will pass!

Yikes! Seems like everyone's sick. My son will be five on August 5th.. (They grow up so quick... I look at baby picks and reminisce).. So my son was sick last night, and he's complaining that his throat hurts (which really stinks b/c there's nothing I can really do for him, and he isn't much of a gargler.. otherwise I'd do salt and water).. but he's also developping some white patches on his tonsils I think. So I'm thinking that along w/ this cold, we could still have strep throat. Mike had it last week, who knows.

I hope everyone else is feeling better too... I've been in the process of scouring the house w/ lysol products, vacuming, and mopping, and washing everything. I also discovered that listerine is great for cleaning kids toy cars (MY KID LOOOOVVEEES his toy trucks and cars)... ironically enough, they end up in his mouth quite a bit sometimes.. and ;he doesn't always wash his hands when he's done playing with them. (But what do I expect, he is five afterall)... so I put some listerine in a spray bottle and spray them once and wipe them down. (Just cause aside from soap and water, it seems like the safest, fastest, and easiest way to do it).

I hear bronchitis is pretty nasty, I hope yall recover quick.
