    <DIV>
Hi Just thought I’d let everyone know about an anxiety conference coming up at the end of November in the UK, which includes a workshop on V* phobia.

    http://www.anxietyconference.org.uk

The workshop is being led by Dr David Veale who is the only clinician I have managed to track down in the UK who has a particular interest in this phobia. Dr Veale will be presenting findings of his research study into emetophobia. He also has his own website which gives more info. www.veale.co.uk

Unfortunately I can’t go to the conference but maybe if anyone else attends they could post here about what they thought and what they learnt?

Anyone had a look at www.veale.co.uk?

What do you think of what he's saying on the info pages and the question page?

I hope he publishes his research soon and thatother doctors/psycholgists take note becuase there seems to be very little research done in this area.

Certainly sounds as though he is really interested and understands how disabling this phobia can be.

Have you ever thought of going to see him? I believe he does private appointments. I'd go, if he wasn't so far away... and so expensive!

yeah i would althou i'm in plymouth so its a long way to go,but then, any distance is worth getting somewhere with your emet....and of course i don't work so i think he's private, theres no way i would be able to afford him, unless i won the lottery...and thats not going to happen!!!

if anyone goes to this conference it would be great to hear about it,i wonder if the DR would put something up on his website for us or send us some information...

    would u contact him,if not i might e-mail him...its worth a try i guess..

He has a question and answer page on his site as well as a factsheet kind of thing so that might be worth a read; but not sure if there's much more he could addas its now up to us to find the individual help that's right for us I guess.Just quite reassuring to know that someoneis taking it seriously!

Maybe Sage could try and make more of a 'professinal' link with him, or maybe have a link here to whatever research he publishes?

Go for it if you would like to contact him!

Its probably a little late to post about it now but if you are in the UK
and watching ITV1, there is a program about a man with OCD and Dr
Veale (as mentioned above) is treating him - very interesting!!
    Laugh, quick, before you cry....

hey i watched ITV this evening with real families....it was very moving and felt so sad for this guy who has OCD,he's had it for 40yrs and his life and aniexty has got worse over the last 16yrs...but its funny seeing DR Veale on it...u know u get a vision of what someone looks like, when people have talked about him on here i thought he'd be an older guy in his 50's with dark hair, and he totally wasn't....its strange how we make a picture of someone with out meeting them....but if anyone has chance to c it reapeted then i would def recommend it....

OhI wish I'd seen that. I've been out this evening, and it was a change to the avertised programme in the Radio Times soI didn't video it either. Oh well... I guess I am doing OK with the support I have here from my GP but it would be great if at least Dr Veale's reasearch could inform other professionals around the country. I've PM'd Sage to see what she thinking about making a connection.

He does NHS appointments too - you just have to get refered from your GP

Being referred by your GP sounds simple enough, but actually they won't look at youtil after you've gone through all the local mental health hoops and tried them and then if that doesn't work then a psychiatrist needs to have asseseed you as needing that very specialist help. Quite a lot of it is to do with funding and having to prove you really need the help outside your local health area. And then once you get accepted onto the waiting list its several more months til you get treatment.

Its quite depressing that we have to fight so hard and wait so long for decent help.

It's only complicated if its a referral to someone outside your local health board. In the first instance your GP should be able to refer you to your local psychology team who deal with phobias. Although even this can have waiting lists of several months. Go on ... take the risk... don't let the phobia win!

you know what, I know this sounds silly but I dont have time to let the phobia win!!

I have so much else going on that I dont have the time to faff about with doctors and phsychologists and suchlike I just kind of get on with it.

I guess I'm lucky in the fact that my emet isnt as bad as a lot of people and that I'mnot constantly in fear (just when something has happened to trigger it off)
