Okay I am on a huge rant. I was having lunch with my kids at Noodles today and was appalled at some of the things I saw. Finally, I had an AHA moment. We have all been wondering why people are sick all the time. As I watched the deplorable manners of the patrons in this restaurant, it came very clear to me why the germs that go around do.

Now I sound very curmudgeon, but when were were growing up our parents insisted on specific behaviors whether it was related to manners in general or health related. I watch kids sneeze without covering their mouths. I see people blow their noses and put soiled tissues on tabletops. The parents do nothing. My mother would have removed us from any social situation where our manners weren't exemplary - period. There were no shades of gray.

By the way, I purchased a cute little book that was mentioned on the 20/20 episode I saw a few weeks ago. Its call The Germ Freak's Guild to Outwitting Colds and Flu by Allison Janse with Charles Gerba, Ph.D.

Most of the suggestions in this book are very common knowledge to most of us here, but I still learned a ton of things. Even the things I already knew, gave me some validation that not only do I (being nornma) think about them, but they sound bits of advice to the human population. Of course, the people who buy this book are not the ones who really need it. However, we could all learn a few things. Although the information is great, it is done in a whimsical way.

The best part of the book is the snippets about where the most germ infested places are like elevator buttons to name just one.

Anyway, just had to give my two cents.

Hi i know what you mean. I went to the cinema with my bf the otherday
and we went to mc donalds first. While we were queueing there were two
women with thier kids, two girls and a boy between the ages of 6 and 10
i would guess. In the restaurant they have the little booths with
plastic cutlery and the wooden drink stirers. Well the kids were all
grabbing these, trying to hold as many as they can. Then they started
making walrus teeth out of them. Then what do the mothers do, tell the
kids to put them back! the kids just put them back when they had them
in their mouths and grubby fingers all over them! I was so disgusted i
told the staff in mc donalds what happened.

Also atm my flatmate has the flu. Hes sitting in the kitchen coughing
and sneezing everywhere without covering his mouth. He blew his nose on
a tea towel then used it to wipe tyhe work surface. Im starving hungry
but i cant eat because of him being so inconsiderate in the kitchen.
