Umnm, does anyone know if you can get food poisoning from stale cereal? I just finished my Honey Nut Cheerios this morning and they were really chewy. We have had them for a bit of time, not like, past sell by dates or anything, or for an abnormally long time- just they're the last few bowls left at the end, so they're getting a bit stale.

Can you get food poisoning from it? I've got a sleepover tonight, and I don't want to be ill away from home.

No! I'm pretty positive you can't get food poisoning from cereal. I guess the packet hasn't been sealed properly so they've dried out a bit. Honestly, they wont do you any harm - they maybe just didn't taste the best!

    Ah thank-you.

I'm just a bit worried because of the sleepover, and I really wouldn't like to be ill at someone else's house, because it would be so embarrassing and awful for them too.

Nahh, cereal practically keeps forever, soccer princess! I swear, my mum has muesli from 2 years ago in our cupboard, and its never done me any harm.

Sell-by or use-by dates often mean that they taste best before that date...any longer than that, and they might lose their flavour a bit. Its just a recommendation, alot of the time! ^_^ Of course, the exceptions are dairy and meat products, but with cereal and stuff, you should be just fine

Enjoy the sleepover, try not to worry!

Thank you everyone. The sleepover was fine, and nothing happened (duh, I'm so stupid lol)

I finished the last packet and started a fresh one today. I'd forgotten what it felt like to have them actually crunch in my mouth, not just be chewy. :P
