Do not let this phobia stop you from having a baby. Babies are the most WONDERFUL miracle you will ever receive.

I want a baby very badly, too. My maternal longings are kicking in big time. My husband says we can start trying at the end of 2006. So in another year, I could be pregnant. I can't wait. I get nervous about thinking of our children getting sick, but I know that if my mother (who's an emet) could do it, I can too. I am not going to let this affect my decision to have children. Sure, kids get sick more than adults, but usually it's only 1-2 times a year. The rest of the time can be spent enjoying motherhood. Don't let emet win. You don't want to be old and gray, regretting never having your own grandbabies to hold, do you? I sure don't. We can do this!

Ditto what everyone else has said. You deal with it when they're sick, and morning sickness? HA! I laugh in the face of morning sickness. LOL. Seriously, I was n* but never v*.

I don't regret my decision to have my three for a minute!

Well....my advice to you is to get help with your phobia before you become a mother.....for the sake of your child......I have 2 children, no nausea in my pregnancies, just bad heartburn......I have always had emet, but raising my 2 children has been horrible with this fear of them getting sick.....you will only do harm to you and your child if you don't get help first.....I wish I had. Good luck to you in your decision. Just remember your child needs a mother who will comfort them when they are sick...not a mother who runs, like me.Edited by: sheri-baby

I used to have the same concern - became pregnant without intending
too, was really scared, but NEVER had any sicknesss, either during the
pregnancy or during delivery, and I have had three pregnancies! Not all
pregnancies lead to illness. I felt totally and very healthy through them
all, and never even worried about it (very weird for me, as I have or rather
had, severe emetophobia). Somehow, being pregnant just wiped all that
fear away. I think it is the same for others, and I hope it is the same for
you!

As for your kids getting sick, well, you just learn to deal with it, and you
can help them avoid illness by knowing what causes them to get sick.
You can, and will, survive it!

Some of you are SO lucky...no morning sickness. God, I wish I could say the same. But, it was worth every v*. I suppose I am lucky...I have a pretty healthy kid (knock on wood), and he has only had a sv once, and he will be 5 in March. I actually handled it pretty good...surprisingly. Of course, I got "it" the next day, but looking back, it was 2 days of our lives, and there are countless others that make those two days compltetly irrelevent.

Even though I did have mornign sickness, for longer than most, I still want another. I actually want one REALLY bad. Tick tock. LOL!!

Good luck with your desicion.

I have a hard time dealing with my kids being sick, but I can't imagine life without my kids. I panic, freak out, run out of the room and am really not a good mom when one of them is v*ing, but other than that, the other 362 days of the year, I manage to be a great mom. I had no morning sickness. I think it was a mind over matter thing. I refused to let myself. there are so many tricks to not feeling sick, there is no need to worry about that. I used to keep saltines next to my bed and would eat a couple and sip some water before I even got up, that really helped. you'll find your trick.

I don't have children, and I don't want any -- not because of emet though. Just letting you know that I don't have any kids.

But really, this way would be the best, wouldn't it? That is, getting treatment, being cured, and then having the children. The reason that I say that is becauseit seems like a bit of a game of chance to say, "well, when the time comes, and the kids get sick, I'll get through it." It seems to have worked that way for many moms, but then once in a while, it doesn't (i.e. pookey), and how will you know for sure until you have the child if you are the one for whom it will cause a lot of suffering?

Just my minority opinion....
