Hi there guys, slightly worried and that is because on sunday my 5 yr old cousin was sick and had diahorrea, now my auntie (her mum) was convinced it was a bug but since then no1 seems to have caught it except my other 2 yr old cousin who made a really quick recovery.

What im worried about is the fact my nan goes there alot, and she came up today and im worried she may be carrying something? She doesnt mind going to places where people are sick and very rarely catches it. But could she be carrying?

James I would have thought that if they were ill on Sunday and no-
ones been ill since then the likelihood is pretty slim that a) your nan
would have caught it and b) that if she had, without exhibiting
symptoms that she could have transferred it to you? I'm no expert
but its highly unlikely.
Why oh why do we have to carry this worry all the time? My daughter
has just come home from school and told me that as I had forgotten
to put a spoon in her lunchbox for her yoghurt, the school gave her
one of theirs!!! AAAARRRGGGHHH...now for the next 3 days I'm
going to be worrying that she will come down with something
because of course won't possibly have washed the spoon to my
scrupulous standards, if at all??? All this worry from my sheer
stupidity!! If only I could rewind the clock??

I agree with Prettypolly. I read somewhere that it's either rare or impossible for someone with no symptoms to pass on gastro illnesses to others. I'm sure it will turn out ok.

Prettypolly, I know exactly what you mean! But you weren't stupid at all in forgetting. Everyone forgets things at some point, and considering we have so much extra we're worrying about, I think it's natural for us to forget quite a bit! Don't blame yourself. Anyway, I'm sure the spoon will be alright. Even if someone used the spoon and they didn't wash it at all, which is unlikely anyway, it's a slim chance that person would be ill at that time anyway.

Polly, your school had real spoons? We always had pre-wrapped plastic sporks. LOL... if they have those at your daughter's school, then I'm sure she'll be fine.

hi tayda & soccer princess - thanks 4 replying.

Yes over here we do actually have real metal cutlery in our schools -
its classy in the UK you know? (Yeah right!) I wish they did have
plastic wrapped ones - less for us numpties to worry about!!

Thanks 4 your reassurances! Whats worse is we went round a friends
house earlier, who very kindly offered us a drink - and when I turned
round, my daughters sipping out of one of those plastic thingies thats
got a tube at the top that you suck thru, and it belonged to my
friends daughter - and horror of all horrors, she only had an SV a
fortnight ago - and I've been counting the days, bcoz I made sure I
didn't go to see them for a fortnight!! Now I'm really worried - not
only has my daughter used a possible contaminated spoon, shes
used someone elses plastic drinking contraption who recently
vommed!!! I know I'm gonna have a bad few days now!!! BOO HOO!

Just to make you feel better, my son drank from an UNKNOWN straw in a milkshake cup at Home Depot. I about DIED. Not only did I have to worry about who on earth was drinking out of that straw last who set it there, and what mouth fungus/stomach virus/blood disease they had, but how long the milk in the shake had been sitting in the aisle on the shelf. Here we are two weeks later, and he was fine--yayyyy! I called the doc to see if we should do any tests like hepatitis or hiv or something, and he said no. Anyway, just thought i might make the previous poster feel better...we lived through it, thank the Lord!
Chris
